Following the draft, the next big NBA event will be summer league, along with free agency. I don't know about the rest of you but I'm actually pretty excited about our prospects and seeing them play with the summer league team. Provided we retain McDaniels and keep our young guys, our summer league team may become must watch basketball. Just to see Capela's improvement will be reason enough for me to watch but the team can be very exciting, too! It should be all dunks! Look at this potential line-up: Nick Johnson KJ McDaniels Sam Dekker Montrezl Harrell Clint Capela If its not a dunk fest every game, I will be pretty disappointed. Lord knows where the shooting will come from but that team can get break starters on defense and race down for exciting fast breaks. Mix that with typically poor summer league defenses and the Rockets may be very exciting, indeed. May be BrickCity and DunkCity at the same time! Any word on any undrafted players the Rockets have contacted to play for summer league? There may be a gem to be found a la Troy Daniels or Rob Covington. Either way, very excited to be seeing "Rocket's" basketball again very soon. It been too long LOL
From what I can tell, the Rockets are only in the Vegas summer league this year as opposed to being in the Orlando and Vegas last year. Also apparently there is like a 4 team Utah summer league this year.
When is it, and whose going? I need a trip to Vegas this Summer, and have been trying to map one out for weeks. Johnson, Dekker, Capela, Harrell, and maybe we get a look at a Euro stash like Gentile if we are lucky. I'd love to go see these guys play.
Also, given KJ's free agency, its doubtful he'll be there. I think its usually right towards the back end of free agency so he might still be out there waiting to get that sorted out, or might not even be with the Rockets.
I'd really like take take a chance on Cliff Alexander. Kid made a terrible decision to come out this year, but has talent.
Lacey signed with the Cavs. He Cook and Sykes to compete in S/L. Liked all 3. I like the Rockets 2 PG's but not quite as much. Looks like the Cavs don't expect to resign Deladova
We will have an above average Summer League team. But come on, nowhere close to the stratosphere of the Timberwolves or 76ers. Check this out for Minn: Wiggins (ROY) Lavine (2015 Slam Dunk contest winner) Townes (2015 #1 pick) Adreian Payne (2014 #15 pick) Tyus Jones (Duke PG that many at cf.net wanted) Some might speculate that Wiggins won't play, but I suspect the coaches will want those 5 to get as much play together before Fall camp as possible.
