To make one thing clear, this isn't a homogeneous issue across the United States. After living in the Houston area for 18 years and then moving to Massachusetts, it is a world of difference in the general shape of the population in the respective regions.
This is only a small piece of the big picture. What it comes down to is over eating and pure laziness. Allegedly, Americans watch 5 hours of TV a day. If they would take those 5 hours and turn them into something productive, America wouldn't have this big of a problem.
