My gut feeling is that Grant will be gone before Tyus. Tyus is more efficient, but Grant's size and scoring ability might help him become a better pro despite his age, because Tyus doesn't have much upside.
How is Tyus more efficient? Last Year: Jones: 44.0% 2P, 37.9% 3P Grant: 57.2% 2P, 31.6% 3P And the year before: Grant: 57.8% 2P, 40.8% 3P
Jones is a better 3 point shooter than him, and Grant's 3 point shooting percentage has decreased, but that doesn't mean that Grant can't improve on it.
Tyus' upside is he's 19 years old, far from a finished product. He's got way more upside than Grant does.
Agreed. I assume Grant's 3P% went down because defenses were keying in on him. In the NBA, once he adjusts to the extra distance, he would benefit from playing next to Harden. Also, if Harden's requesting another player who can attack the basket, the numbers show Grant is far superior as of now, as Normalus pointed out earlier.
Y'all are jumping on this TJones bandwagon quick. He's gonna be facing Paul, Westbrook, Parker, Bledsoe, Curry, Conley... If we are picking PG at 18, he'd better just be a backup. We're gonna need Bev and or Llull. Preferably both.
Again, I just don't see a PG here. Could be wrong, but we need someone that can: a) contribute immediately and not be a liability on defense or b) be a really good trade asset a rookie point guard does not fit either of those. One guy I'm keeping an eye on is Justin Anderson. Big time athlete. Plus defender. Developing shooter. He either replaces Ariza or he's a good trade asset.
Not feeling Grant, Jones, nor Wright. They're all backups at most IMO. I'd prefer one of PF's there. Lyles Portis Looney Harrell In that order. I'm having a hard time believing Morey would just let EVERYONE know who's he's picking.
Mavs already have Shane Larkin though. Not that Tyus isn't better, but why bother throwing two roster spots away at lotto picks which are in essence the same? You can't hit on both...
Better scorer than Delon Wright. Harden wants another guard to take the pressure of him. Tyus would be the better option in that regard although I do see them trading for another guard to help Harden. Long term though, Tyus>Grant>Rozier>Delon.
A point guard who doesn't defend is not an option. A point guard like Wright who defends, crashes the boards and can score better than Terry/Pablo is.
Jones is probably a "value" pick at 18. There probably will be no one better on the board. An 18 pick is of course just a crap shoot, and teams look for rotation players that far down in the draft. I would not complain about Ty Jones at 18. If Oubre or Payne fall it could be a different story, but that is not going to happen.
