Of all the superstars in the league today I think he gets the fewest calls. If you breathe on durant or harden they get FTs. When lebron is coming toward the basket he gets a held a bunch and doesn't get calls. They do let him get away with travel and he gets away with some aggressive defense, but maybe the last superstar they let get hacked so much is Yao or maybe shaq. However they probably didn't want shaq at the line. This finals has kind of highlighted that they let players get away with hacking Lebron who is supposedly the face of the league.
To be fair, he gets away with murder when it comes to complaining to refs. No other player in the league has that kind of leeway
lebron is a david stern product. and he's been out there for a decade. curry is silver's version of i-phone. the league is marketing curry and stuffing it to our throats exactly the same way back when they were producing lebron.
That's because most of the time, LeBron is REALLY REALLY good at absorbing contact and still getting a great look at the basket. Only when it's blatantly obvious that he's been fouled will they call it(besides that Iggy hack across the arms today, I saw that from home lol).
"so in the playoffs the rules get a whole different standards? i am actually fine with that, but please make sure that the same memo gets to everybody." - jeff van gundy
at the end of regulation in game 1 they didn't swallow that whistle calling traveling on mozgov…….they didn't swallow swallow for curry on the perimeter vs JR at the end last nite either
Despite the shuffling? The travel? Lol. I feel like the refs sometimes miss a call or make a call to make up for a no-call or bad call.
He was standing no more than 10 ft from the play. How he didn't see that is beyond me, the best refs are supposed to be officiating these games, so how is he ref'ing the Finals?
i've said this before. it's the shaq (and recently dwight) syndrome. they're so big and strong that refs don't think the fouls affect them. his FTA the past few years has been laughable for someone who drives as much as him, posts up as much as him, and for someone who spends a lot of his time in the paint. people even tackle him and it's just a common foul. if it was curry, it would be a flagrant
there is obviously a different set of rules for lebron just like there is a different set of rules for dwight. if dwight did HALF of the stuff bogut and green are doing, he would be fouled out at the snap of a finger everybody can get physical with dwight but if he uses his strength than it's a problem. the nba is ridiculous sometimes with their officiating double standard
Travel is always a questionable call and most people wouldn't have caught that one. But everyone saw the giant hack across the arm. You can let the travel go and then justify that to not call the hack. Either call the travel, or call the hack.
Lebron, like you said wins with power. He is not particularly crafty in the lane like Harden or westbrook. Consequently, Lebron bulls his way into the lane, often creating the contact himself. He doesn't get a lot of fouls his way but he also could be called for a lot more offensive fouls than almost anyone else in the NBA by the nature of his play.
NBA referees are simply the worst among all professional sports, and Tony Brothers is one of the worst among NBA officials. You get the picture. But what's more troubling is that all the refs following same agenda during a period of time. Nowadays, those old house name superstars like Kobe and LeBron are not getting calls anymore, but the new breed like KD, JH, SC are getting all kinds of calls in their favor, at both ends of the floor. Curry, the fresh baked MVP overtakes KD this year for the most precious porcelain vase status. The way NBA is allowing murder on big men, and the way they are rewarding jumper shooters for cheating, the league is sending a clear message to the world. As end result, everyone is jacking up 3s, and there are only a hand full of players with some semi-decent post up plays among several hundred NBA players.
