Now I am fan of the still better political freedoms and democracy that we have in the US and still have admittedly some fear of China surpassing the US, so I wish we would not be so imperialist and dumb in our policies. This is partly due to wishing that we would stop trying by force to other countries to kowtow to our one percent at the expense of their populations. Even if one is only out for our one percent it seems quite dumb for our one percent to be so short cited. We run around and waste a huge amount of our money essentially making countries hate us. The Middle East, Russia, Veneuela etc. Meanwhile China is doing business and creating friends with these countries by spending much less than we spent on military actions, subversion etc. As China's economy grows larger and larger than ours what good will our vastly bigger military really do for us? We cannot invade China and their increased ability to make friends will I feel overwhelm our militaristic power seeking to control countries around the world China is building roads and infrastructure all over the world for countries without requiring them to gut health care and education as our flunky World Bank and IMF require. Despite some spill over military spending does not provide the same bang for the buck as investments in education, infrastructure just increasing the coming gap between the US economy and that of China's.
Yea not really. Their entire system is corrupt, their rivers are toxic, the air is unbreathable. By 2040 or so, China will be uninhabitable.
What you are saying is sort of like those who projected the economy of China in 2014 to be sort of like it was in the early 1980's. Well from what I see as China puts its mind to that it will be able to clean up the rivers and air as we somewhat did in this country prior to the irrational anti-government nuttery.
Look I agree that the US has corrupted system which needs a massive overhaul, but China isn't really going to be a threat. The U.S. controls the money supply, and as long as we force everyone to buy oil in dollars, that isn't going to change.
I don't know if China is treating their citizens any better but they are making major moves and gaining allegiances in other parts of the world. They're becoming builders and not destroyers. They've been sinking billions of dollars into Africa with no political strings attached. Do you know how powerful China would be if they pull some of those African countries out of the dark ages so they can stand on their own and have their allegiance. It would also put a big dent in the western world's economy... Particularly countries in Europe because they've been surviving off of raping an pillaging Africa. If not for Africa, places like France (and others) would be a 3rd world country.
China's neighors don't like it so much. Look at the conflicts with Japan, Korea, Viet Nam, Philippines ...
List of countries by foreign aid given. China is estimated to be 6th largest, which would it it 1/3 of the US at best. I'm pro China, but much of this thread is nonsense. United States – $31.55 billion United Kingdom – $17.88 billion Germany – $14.06 billion Japan – $11.79 billion France – $11.38 billion Sweden – $5.83 billion Norway – $5.58 billion Netherlands – $5.44 billion Canada – $4.91 billion Australia – $4.85 billion Italy – $3.25 billion Switzerland – $3.20 billion Denmark – $2.93 billion Belgium – $2.28 billion Spain – $2.20 billion
Yeah..... no. You don't live in reality. I don't know if you are the bubble boy or if a lawn dart pierced your skull as a child.... either way, you are are just a little "off".
America's natural environment was horrendous during the Industrial Revolution and in the years following. And we still managed to clean it up. With the technology out there today (and developing) and the resources available to the Chinese government, I doubt China's environmental problems will be a long term issue. The funny thing is, per capita, Chinese citizens produce less environmental pollution (e.g. much smaller carbon footprint) than Americans. If every Chinese person polluted and produced garbage at the level of Americans, the entire Earth would probably be uninhabitable by 2040.
Yeah.... you are smarter than that. No strings attached? No, most of the "aid" has been in the form of loans which are inevitably not repaid and result in China getting natural resources such as oil from the African countries.
So what? The results speak for themselves. Less than a decade of Chinese investment has done more good for many African countries than decades of western interventionism (e.g. IMF, UN, etc.). You act like western powers don't also extract natural resources from African nations.
Of course they're loans. What country is just going to straight up give away enormous amounts of money as a gift with no expectations of any return whatsoever? The real issue are the terms of the loans. The loans that western countries gave to developing African nations via the IMF or other international organizations carried terms that tied the hands of policymakers and other players in the financial markets. Chinese loans are "no strings attached" in the sense that they do not have these restrictions.
Are you serious? There is a ton of research on the topic. Read the book "The Dragon's Gift." You can just look at economic growth rates of African countries and notice a marked difference from the time that China started investing heavily in Africa. There are numerous opinion polls out there from various African countries who view China's investment as more beneficial than western aid.
