FWIW, numerous NBA players have come out publicly against the violence including many of the Wizards.

 

And they should. No sane person could condone this.

I would think advocating murder would be enough for a ban. But what do I know about moderating...

 

I honestly hope that he's something like 15 years old....that's the most positive possible explanation for his comments.

I just wanted to frame the irony of one person dehumanizing a group of human beings while the other commented on a lack of respect for human life.

I think the moment you embrace violence is the moment you lose--but paradoxically, me, you and everybody else are stuck in a society where violence is used to maintain the life we live.

Ultimately, what's happening here is the unsophisticated variety of violence in its basest form, deployed by people with little nuance in how to get away with it. We can condemn it viscerally: that's the easiest part of this. What's harder is to understand. What's even harder is to go after violence in all its forms, when it is not burning cars but a sweeping machine hidden with banality and embedded in the largest incarceration rate in human history and a suite of black sites, torture rooms, and hidden cells.

 

It isn't their city right now, it belongs to the wealthy people who own property and the police and government that protects the interests of those wealthy people.

Maybe if the economic practices of this country didn't consolidate so much wealth into the hands of a small percentage of the population then the people who are rioting and looting right now would actually feel like the community belonged to them.
