Unlikely. I'm sure many of the teen girls that were claiming Jahar's innocence in the aftermath of the bombing are now old enough to be jurors.

What exactly is the point of this trial?
Seems like a waste of money.

He did it, has admitted as such. If there's death penalty in the state, the end. If there's not, life in prison.

Maybe... hopefully... it is giving some of the victims some closure.. but probably reopening wounds...

 

Let all of his victims stumble into the court on their new titanium legs and talk for hours while he has to listen and squirm. Then kill him. Seems worth it to me.

So the point of it is to allow the guilty to wear down the victims through time, recollection, emotion, etc. enough to ensure they don't get the death penalty.

It's ridiculous.

The only thing at this point that should be determining whether or not he gets the death penalty would be the jurors views towards the death penalty.

 

That is absolutely brutal. Someone needs to Jack Ruby this POS. I am fairly liberal but I completely support the death penalty in cases like this. I hope he fries.

 

Except that's pretty much how all plea deals work. Prosecutors let criminals get a lower penalty so they don't have to go through all the work of a trial and making their case.

 

I know... that's what I'm complaining about.

Death penalty is letting this guy off too easy. Find some other way to make his life so much more painful.

 

True, but can't just circumvent the system. Its a sad formality, but its better than creating a weird precedent that could be harmful in the future.
Hope he gets the worst punishment possible.

 

Well, first off, there has to be a trial in America.

You're right though, it helps provide closure for those who want to face this evil. Some may not want to relive the horror, but for others it provides a part of the healing process. I doubt they're forcing victims who do not want to testify.
