EVERYTHING (Stats, eye test, and testimonials) say that Melo is a selfish dumb inefficient chucker. Yet Morey went all in to get him on the Rockets. TWICE. Does Morey even believe in his own numbers?? Luckily the basketball gods intervened both times.
He was probably confident that Melo is playing inefficiently because he's in a losing environment and that if he came to Houson, he'd give better effort and buy into the system. Once you get complacent in a losing environment, you're just there to collect the paycheck. Like the gf that dates the play boy, thinking I can change him.
Exactly this. There's a reason why Morey went hard after Josh "anti-Morey Ball" Smith numerous times.
The great JVG on how you win 4th grade girls basketball. <iframe width="854" height="510" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t1GchaPNd3E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Because he can score seemingly at will. Even if he is only shooting 45% from the field for the year, shooting 45% while breaking down a defense and shooting as much as he does is valuable compared to a guy who can't create his own shot and shoots a third as much but shoots 50%. Plus, his ability to score means other teams would key in on him, which opens up shots for "role players". If they don't double him, he can take anybody one on one. This is why when you look at the stats many super-star guards throughout the years, many of them appear "inefficient" from the field. Yet their teams were often very good. When it comes to players who can score, efficiency isn't necessarily as important as you may think.
Why did they choose "42" ? Meaning of everything? Minutes to live on S. S. Pentallian? Jackie Robinson? Teen Wolf?
I'm pretty sure Morey thought he was a unique talent that would take that next step, if he bought into analytics. That was probably a big point they tried to make, when they met with Melo, but i doubt Melo liked hearing that. Probably one of the reasons he didn't want to come here.

Morey needs to stop hosting sports analytics conference and start attending sports winning championships conference. Maybe he has to take a sports going to 2nd round class first before they allow him to attend.
There needs to be a reality show about Jeff Van Gundy coaching 4th grade girls basketball. I'd watch.
Hope there aren't any fights though. Would hate to see him latched on to the leg of a 4th grade girl.
Battier said the analytics data helped his D tremendously but made himlosee creativity on O. LOL Shane never had offensive creativity to begin with ...
Jeff would probably get arrested for unlawful touching when he wraps himself around his player's feet to prevent the girls from pulling each other's hair on court.
