Was supposed to talk to Chavis this morning, haven't heard anything about how it went. Most still think either UGA or he still wants to go to UCLA and is waiting to see how the DC situation shakes out.

How is it digging? If UT is winning games, you don't think there is a correlation in better recruiting? Look at Alabama. They have a historic and prestigious program and they also win a ton of games, so they are at the top of recruiting almost every year. If UT can win games and be a top 15 team in the country consistently, then there's no question that the recruiting will improve.

Yeah dude, blanket statement in the Aggie thread about UT. Digging for **** with a meaningless comment. There's another thread for **** digging.

Kickfarckingass, outside of your usual digs at the outerloop, this may be the most hilariously cogent post you've ever tried to type while simultaneously pretending to be halfway sober in the middle of Midtown and/or Washington (not even the good Washington, just the silly kind).

    MMMMMMMM....hold 'em Aggies. Hold 'em.

Heh, ESS EEE CEEE is all about cash & carry.

Leaving a paper trail of USPTO documents? The Aggie jokes write themselves.

They don't care about paper trails, they have nothing to worry about.

Paper trail of what exactly? If they aren't getting in the way of Coris Mack registering the trademark, why would there even be a paper trail? Everything is legal, and the only victim seems to be Texas A&M, who are willing participants.

So your defense is that they were "willing participants" in the scheme to deliberately not enforce school IP rights so that the benefits can flow to a top recruit's father?

I hope Texas A&M doesn't present this defense before the Enforcement committee, lol, that would make a minor infraction a death penalty offense, if the benefits are deemed impermissible. Seems way worse than discount tattoos to me. But then again, Auburn gave Cam newton a million bucks and that worked out fine.

It's bickering like this by college fanbases that is driving me away from the college game more and more every year.

It's become semi-pro football at pro prices. Might as well just pay for the real thing.

Does anyone want to discuss spring practices, position battles, you know actual football or should I just let everyone get back to the violations talk or whether Johnny was boozing again or who stole a big recruit?

it's not inter-fan bickering, Deadspin & ESPN ran this story. It's just textbook "circle the wagons cause somebody said something mean about my glorious alma mater!" which is taken to a particular, saber-pulling extreme in certain parts of East Texas.

It's a possible recruiting violation, or it's also possibly just an innocent coincidence.

I agree that NCAA amateurism rules are a ridiculous sham and probably illegal under antitrust laws, the student athlete model is a fig leaf to protect parasitic siphoning, and the organization itself should be flushed down the toilet, and palyers shoudl be paid fair value for their services

Someone applied for a trademark. Nobody is getting penalized.

IF A&M had knowledge and deliberately didn't send a cease & desist letter, like they have on literally hundreds of occasions in the past for things as innocuous as a dance class on the "Aggie Jitterbug", because it was Daylon Mack's dad, they will absolutely get penalized. Why do you think A&M took steps on THursday after this broke to limit #WRTS commerical use?

It's probably a major rather than a minor violation (if that is what in fact happened, which is not at all established, just circumstantial)

Seriously Zigs, if you want to post seriously - read the article first dude. If you want to clown den clown away.

He filed the trademark in June 2014 before there was any substance to the hashtag from the A&M side. I don't see the problem.

Again, someone filed for a trademark. That's it. There is no story. No penalties. I'll do a $150 tip jar bet and put the money in escrow today if you're up for it.

Whoa, whoa, hey TAMU, someone filed for a trademark, bro. Now we're gonna give you the death penalty.

    Lulz.

This was a pretty big rumor close to national signing day, and was said to be the deciding factor in Mack recommitting to A&M. Not sure why anyone is surprised by this.

I'm not completely well-versed in law, but if A&M agrees to no longer use the #WRTS slogan (or at least cut its use to a minimum while gaining "permission" from Coris Mack), I still fail to see the issue. I understand what you're saying, and I'm not denying that it's a sneaky, backhanded advantage to gain in the recruiting race, but that's the world we live in.
