- Dang. Just as the prog movement was gaining steam. Calderon ain't goin' nowhere on that contract. #ProgNotFrog #TheProgPrince
Yep, I've been saying since the off-season that it just doesn't make since for Phoenix to trade Dragic.
You guys are talking as if the Pelicans pick is gonna get a game changer. We don't have anything to offer for Rubio. They didn't just give him this extension so they can flip him for our garbage. Some of you are delusional. Morey will definitely keep trying for Dragic. I just don't see the Suns doing it unless we include Dmo. Otherwise they would rather just make a run for the playoffs.
Rubio is one of the few pure point guards in the NBA. He is a facilitator and plays elite defense. Morey should go all in for Rubio. Hardens talent is not being taken advantage, without a real point guard.
Rubio is the best fit because Minny gave him that contract thinking this was going to be just a transition year but instead looks like a big rebuild. The problem is that his value is at an all-time low with Houston being the only realistic trade option for them. Every other contender has their point guard and Rubio's contract won't scare Morey because if Rubio does well, a skilled PG is a tradeable asset. Alas, his value is low right now and Minny may want to get him back for a month or two to re-estabish some value then try to trade him in the off-season to a team like Houston or to one of the losers in the Dragic bidding.
The Pels pick is not a game changer in an of itself but outside of Houston, who else would seem a logical fit to trade for a PG? If Morey wanted to trade DMo, a PG upgrade would already be here. I'm not sure he even wants to trade Capela. He's hoping that one of these other teams blinks and accepts spare parts and picks for their PG (likely Lawson or Rubio). In my opinion, the bigger problem will be how to consummate a trade without going over the apron because there's a strong likelihood in trades like these that you have to eat another salary to make this work.
There is a little thing about the $56m extension signed that kicks in next year. The troublesome CBA sez that any acquiring team would have to have the available cap room at the time of the trade to accommodate next season's salary.
Why would Minny trade, what they see as promising 24 year old pass first guard, with whom they just signed a 4 year extension, for a deal centered around the 13th pick? He's horrible offensively, but they knew that when they gave him that contract.
I believe he is right. If you really wanted to, you could just go to the trade machine and it would tell you all the numbers you need to know for the equation. It even explains the Poison Pill Provision.
