was bored and just went through this thread. you completely missed the point of why he said that. they actually didn't know they were talking about playing it out to the show. they thought letterman wanted them to do another take of the song because they were off key or something, which is what they didn't want to do, since that's how they play their songs.

The Orwells- a class act as always in the face of detractors and cynics. Wise beyond their years. To Letterman's credit at least he admitted fault by inviting the band back on his show. The band stole the show at this past year's SXSW. They are up to big things.

They made a contrived, post-show, face-saving excuse, and may as well have just used "breaking the strings" as their cop-out, rather than the nonsense their publicist told them to go with, is all I was saying (but hey, I guess you bought it, so good on their publicist). I didn't miss any points, but thanks.

Brilliant! "It's supposed to sound like that." "Like ****?" "We call it 'art'".

With regards to the newer performance...a song that is one simple baseline repeated over and over with two guitars coming in and matching the bassline and maybe 8 meaningless lines of repeated lyrics deserves a request for more? Was it just because the singer was acting like it was all a big deal?

just sounds like you got a grudge against them or something. they genuinely looked confused when letterman was asking them to play it again. the lead singer was also cheering on paul when the house band played their song, and a couple of the band members jumped in also.

Just the song -- props to Letterman for having rocking alt bands on his show over the years.

Austin's own Trail of Dead making their 2nd appearance on Letterman (this is when he was out for heart surgery).

In the action of mockery, the Orwells win the round. Letterman just needs to retire...... quietly.

I'm sure the publicity Letterman/Schaffer gave them didn't help at all.

They did?? Or were their careers going nowhere and they just sold out and became a gimmicky band who has a song in an Apple commercial? Seems to kill that cool indie cred that those affected nerds were angling for.
