When you are a team in a weak market and you have a player that is a potential all star you have to do what it takes to keep him... I wouldnt want to be the team paying him the max but he will get it.
With the expected cap jump I would give him a max level deal but one that does not rise as a percentage of salary cap.
Top 5 sg? Harden, Klay, Demar, Kobe, Wade, Wesley Matthews, Ellis,Tyreke, Bledsoe? (technically playing as one) are all better than him. He has talent to easily become a top 5 sg, but it's a bit premature to declare him as one all of a sudden.
Debatable if top 5 though. 1. Harden 2. Jimmy Buckets 3. Klay 4. Derozan 5. Wade 6. Dragic (he plays SG for the Suns anyway) 7. Monta Ellis 8. Wesley Matthews To me, those 8 are at present better than Beal. Beal imho is probably in the range of players like JJ Redick, Kevin Martin, Joe Johnson, Afflalo, Stephenson and Wiggins.
He is very young and has the talent to be as good as he wants. If guys like Hayward, Parsons, and Stephenson can get the max so can Beal.
He's not worth the max today but he will be in a year or two for sure. Guys like Kobe and Wade are on their way out and he's better than guys like Wes Matthews already... If you don't agree ... He will be in the near future.
First of all, Stephenson didn't get the max. Second, while his game compliments Wall's game very well, he is only slightly above average based on his production. Too many turnovers given his production and he isn't really a great passer. His range is also not very good when he isn't spotting up. Sure he isn't asked to be the playmaker on this team, but he hasn't shown anything that says he could do that either. This team will rue the day they gave him the max should they decide to. He's a good player, solid even, but he's incredibly far from a player like Harden or even Hayward. Hayward's a very good player, though perhaps not a max player either, but the market dictates that he's about the best that Utah can hope for. As far as Parsons, we all know what he's really worth.
I agree Hayward is a stud but I also believe Beal will only get better. Never Harden's level but maybe a Manu or Joe Johnson type of player.
He can't create like either one of those guys. That's the problem people have with him so far as I can tell. He's not a creator. He's mostly just a shooter.
