Everyone wants aaron rodgers. You aren't getting rodgers. Its easy to make the easy move. Time to take risks.
I'd rather the Texans get Colt McCoy over RG3. RG3's confidence is shot, he has an ego, and it has been proven that his style of QB play does NOT work in the NFL over the long term, especially for someone with his build.
All depends on the cost to get him. RGIII was not a run first QB at Baylor. That happened in Washington. He needs a system and coaching. Randall Cunningham transformed his game to become a pocket passer later in his career, and he ended up kicking ass for the Vikings. He had to learn that he couldn't rely on his legs. Maybe he fails...but if the price is right, I think it's worth the gamble.
He was throwing to chris carter and randy moss with robert smith in the backfield. That was a pretty good team around him.
Absolutely it was. I'm not suggesting the Texans shouldn't get better at other positions...they have a solid RB right now. I'm not suggesting they should get RGIII and then stop trying to build a team.
I doubt a conservative team, on a re-build, for a traditional drop-back coach would make a trade for a high profile player deemed as 'damaged goods'. It would make more sense for the Cowboys or Eagles ... Cowboys for PR and he could sit behind Romo comfortably, Eagles because he would work in that offense. It would be like the Jets, but since they will get Winston or Mariotta I guess not.
Only for a cheap price. If we miss out on mariota/Winston then it wouldn't hurt to have rg3 and mallet compete for starting job.
Before everyone goes down this rabbit hole they should first read this article. It tells you everything you need to know about RG3. It's too long to post here but it's a must read from Chris Cooley who does a weekly radio show in DC. The title of the article is "Chris Cooley: RGIII was so bad, I can’t assess the rest of the Redskins’ offense". http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2014/11/19/chris-cooley-rgiii-was-so-bad-i-cant-assess-the-rest-of-the-redskins-offense/
I love and appreciate what RG III did for the Baylor program but I'm not sure he's the man for obriens offense. The guy I would take a look at if available and if the price tag is reasonable is Sam Bradford. He has all the tools and really started playing well last yr.
