I don't recall him holding onto the ball too long, either.

Did he ever run out of bounds or throw it away?

That seemed like a regular occurence under Fitzpatrick.

Mallett sees the field so much better and has the arm to pull off way more difficult throws.

    Agree on all three points.

I expect Mallet to have a lower completion % and more interception than we would like. He had a solid first game but he left points on the field and could have been intercepted at least one more time.

Still, he can move the ball down the field, which is something this team hasn't done since Warren Moon.

Given the structure of BO'B's offense, which emphasizes quick, high % throws, combined with three *really* good pass catchers (AJ, Hopkins, Foster)... I just don't see him getting into too much trouble. Keep in mind, Fitzpatrick had equaled his highest career comp % and bested his career-best YPA under BO'B.

I sincerely don't remember a near-2nd INT. He underthrew two deep balls to wide open WRs - likely, nerves and correctable. And he had some drops, too. D. Johnson had a big one on third down, IIRC.

Another notch: the TEs got involved. Fitzpatrick had forgotten they even existed. That and the seeming improvement in the line makes me think Mallett was a difference maker yesterday.

    We'll see.

Instead of everyone loving on Mallett we should just bump the original Yates thread and post in there. Then, after Mallett has a bad game, just bump the Keenum thread instead of creating a Savage thread please. Thx.

OLB Paul Kruger dropped a sure INT in the second quarter.

I agree with the decision to start Mallet.

Yes, but it was a fast paced 3-and-out!

That was the only really terrible read I can remember, he never saw Kruger.

Andre was having trouble catching malletts ball I'm sure a LB will have much more difficulty with a fast ball like that

If it had hit his helmet, how high would it have bounced?

Absolutely. That's exciting. Which is hell-better than where we were.

I hadn't seen a downfield pass in like 6 years.

Into the stands LOL. Also, he'd be working his way thought concussion protocol right now.

I think he got bailed out on the play where the ref blocked out the defender. But overall, he did seem to make good decisions. I was pretty nervous about him getting the start but he did surprise me. It will be interesting to see how things progress.

Even if you don't connect it opens up the run game. With Fitz opposing defenses only needed to cover 30 yards of the field.

Im pretty sure he would have got his hand blown off if it wasn't for the ref getting in the way. That pass was like a bullet coming out the chamber

Just about every quarterback has passes that could have been picked off [/B] every game.... Joe Montana hit a LB in the chest with the ball in "The Catch" game. It's reason why players play on the defensive side of the ball and one of those reasons is many of them can't catch.
