<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Some bedtime reading from <a href="https://twitter.com/sam_amick">@sam_amick</a>: Rockets GM Daryl Morey builds beyond nerd stereotypes <a href="http://t.co/swZMHNRbK6">http://t.co/swZMHNRbK6</a> <a href="http://t.co/GPNHttdpeX">pic.twitter.com/GPNHttdpeX</a></p>— USA TODAY Sports NBA (@usatodaynba) <a href="https://twitter.com/usatodaynba/status/526944703330398208">October 28, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
The only three places you see anybody talk about "nerds" anymore: Big Bang Theory Sports media FOX News Seriously though get off it... nerds are mainstream these days. The weird ones are the people who don't know how to use technology to their advantage.
Morey using Amick to defend himself... nothing new here. The good PR from Amick is what gets him the Rockets news first (like the Dwight commitment).
After reading this, I really want Battier to come coach for us. He and Daryl see eye to eye, and Shane gets what Daryl is doing. At first I thought it was going to be more anti-Morey schlock but it does turned out to be a positive expose into what makes him tick. Turns our he's a visionary and not afraid to let people know what he's about. We can hide behind our keyboards and pretend we know better than him or make better decisions; we can ruminate over the loss or trade of a favorite player; we can rant and rave over off-season failures, but in the end, we have someone who employs the best means possible to build a winning team, does not rest on his laurels and treats every player with dignity and respect, regardless of their role on the team. We have a great GM - who cares if he's a nerd.
The Rockets have copped a lot of negativity from the media lately... Does this fluff piece guarantee Amick the next big breaking story from the Rockets?
I think so, it makes sense in theory. I kind of want to go back and see what he wrote about the Rockets before the Dwight break.
why does national media think Asik was a key cog last year? I can argue year before last but not last year.
The Mark Bartlestein quote is nice: Bartlestein also represents Gorgon Hayward, David Lee, Taj Gibson, Jose Calderon as his highest paid clients I'd be more interested in a quote about Morey from an agent like Dan Fegan or Arn Tellem though.
Shane Battier does not want to coach in the NBA. DM needs to look for a coach who can prove to be a capable replacement for McHale, because he can't cut it.
How can you be a nerd but be so dumb. Oh yeah, no street smarts and no people skills. You can't have it all
