The Texans need to show more conviction to losing. I'll never be on board so long as Fitz is leading the way. I knew it would be a tough year with Fitz leading the way. I think this transitional year can be seen as a positive step. I will not condone losing as a way to get better.
Not sure what this OP means. You want more conviction to losing, but don't condone losing to get better?
Looks like Oakland, Jax, Tenn, and Tampa Bay will be in the top four. Among those, Oakland and Jax will probably stick with their QB's for at least another year to let their prospects reach whatever plateau they can achieve. So Tennessee and Tampa Bay will probably be fighting between each other for Mariota and Winston. Middle of the pack, which is where the Texans will pick, you might see Hundley and Petty still available. So hope for those guys. The Jets may be looking for one too. Beyond that, I can't see anyone worse than the Texans in record that will be looking hard for a QB. Long story short, if Mariota Winston Hundley and Petty are your tier 1 of QB's, then the Texans might be able to get one if they really want (potentially trading up a few picks if need be), but they might not get to choose which one they want.
Texans aren't all that "talented". They have several overpaid/underperforming vets and a plethora of disappointing 1st/2nd/3rd year players. No depth whatsoever.
what does this mean? most teams have a "good core" to build around. lol. good team "talent" is measured by everybody outside of that 4-5 player core. anyways, "building around a core" is dumb as hell. the production decline happens too quickly (or injury) to not draft BPA. for example, brian cushing. rick has not drafted an ILB since 2010. Unacceptable. i would never throw all my eggs in one basket, even if that basket was patrick willis!
No one said anything about not drafting BPA. I will throw my eggs in the Watt basket. The team has a good amount of elite/very good players. That's all I'm saying. Geez.
Lets count them: Elite - Watt, Foster Very Good - Hopkins, Newton (top 5 RT this season per PFF) On the Cusp (i.e. potentially elite/very good) - Clowney ** Did not include AJ as "very good" because at his age & salary you can't build around him. Agree?
Elite- Watt, Foster, arguable Andre as well ( he certainly was last year, hard to tell with new offense and Fitz) Very good- Hopkins, Newton, Brown, Myers, Brooks Good- Joseph Speaking of PFF, they gave us 6 Elite and High Quality vs only 3 for Colts. Patriots 7 and and Cowboys 5 (zero elite for Cowboys). All I'm saying is we have elite players and it's not a time to tank.
So you tank with AJ? You're completely missing the point. The Texans should not tank if they have players like AJ.
Sooooo.. with 4 "very good" online players, why does the oline blow? I disagree with JJo ~ his play has dropped off dramatically. Not a chance in hell is Andre "elite".
I never said a word about tanking. But, it's bad business to have a 34 year old WR holding a 16 million dollar cap hit.
The oline doesn't blow and Andre is still very good. Since you like PFF: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/stor...s-offensive-supporting-casts-nfl?refresh=true 12. Houston Texans Ryan Fitzpatrick will never be confused with Peyton Manning, but he has had the fortune to play with some excellent weapons during his time in the league. The Texans have worked to surround him with talented supporting players and the trio of Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins and Arian Foster is about as good as it gets. The offensive line hasn't been quite as dominant as a few years back, but none of the starters has played poorly. None of them has been responsible for more than a single sack, and they have run blocked well.
Yea, Andre is "very good", but not elite. Nor does that matter because this discussion is about "core players to build around". Clearly, Andre (34 years old next season + 16million cap hit) will not be in Houston "to be built around". I can't disagree more with PFF's assessment of the Oline. Newton has been the only bright spot IMO, and Brooks has flashed. Brown and Myers have not had a good year.
