Surprised Jopat has an opinion on Terrence Jones, and even more surprised he made a bold claim about his future with a deadline. ................... The only take aways I've gotten from this preseason is Terrence Jones hasn't gotten the easy looks he got during the season last year that he really did a good job of capitalizing one. That's about the only thing that should matter to you folks. Not sure what the big problem is. What does this mean??? -It might mean that Parsons' departure as a secondary play-maker has closed up the offense enough to affect someone like Jones and Beverley who played off the ball last year, and got good quality shots because of it. Maybe having 3 off the ball guys is too much for this squad. -It might mean the Rockets aren't running as much. -It might mean that teams in the preseason aren't game-planning much for Harden and Howard. Meaning the double teams haven't yet really been planned for and Jones' offensive opportunities will open up alot more during the regular season. Teams are probably working on their overall schemes, and sets that are probably more focused on what they want to do internally rather than focusing on preparing for that specific team. -Or it might mean that Terrence Jones is a worse player than last year which considering the fact that he's a talented prospect going into his 3rd year is very, very hard to believe. I personally think you guys are freaking out about nothing(well actually Jones & Bev not getting easy looks during the season will be an issue). Not sure if what you were expecting from Jones this year.... 30PPG scorer? 15 rebounds per game?... what are your serious expectations? 3 point specialist? I don't really get it.
I agree. You might see more of the same from last year going into the regular season but there's no way he'll regressed to the point of what some on here are worried about. The silver lining is that it seems DMo is putting more effort and work into his game and that should be good for both him and Jones. I'm still going to eagerly (and possibly hopelessly) wait for a last minute hail mary by Morey to bring in a better PF before the season starts.
Rockets should have kept the chick they let go to the Lakers. That dude has turned into a pretty decent player. Another bust by Morey. And another thing, with all the PG's and shooting guards we have had through here, how do we have a backup PG with the worst shot in the league and a backup 2 guard smaller than our PG? I would love to see James Anderson and Aaron Brooks in Rockets uniforms right now. Our bench would be a hell of alot stronger.
I think Harden's testicles have more facial hair than Jones. Next time, the homeless dude might stomp Jones.
Our best move would be to trade him, wait til he gets better with another team, and then bring him back with a significant pay raise.
Two things really annoy me about T-Jones which seem not to have changed at all: 1) When he gets the ball, the offense stops most of the time. No quick decisions whatsoever. No quick moves, no quick passing, he just stands there with the ball in his hands and tries to figure out what to do. 2) When he doesn't have the ball on offense, he doesn't do anything. He's just chilling on a spot and watching the game. Why not set some backscreens, make some cuts or anything like that to help your teammates out? I don't get it. Coach? Maybe?
Has anyone answered yet with ... It's the preseason? Calm down a great/crappy preseason doesn't necessarily mean that will translate into the regular season.
I hope he turns into a true talent... ...cause he certainly doesn't have the hustle of a Chuck Hayes...
Well said. After the many many years here in the garm, it always amazes me to see the insane and ridiculous knee jerk throw the baby out with the bath water attitude that is so prevalent in many many posters lol. Human nature never changes
I'll agree, but also say that he's looked beastly in preseason every year. He has as many dunks as D-Mo and he was top 6 in the league last year. I'll be the first to say that he looks like his confidence is shot. Thinks he could lose his spot at any moment. Playing under fear of consequence and playing to prove yourself is totally different. His play last year should've handed him the starting roll. Let's be clear... NO ONE was going to stop LA. Omer didn't stop him either. Jones is only coming into his second year as a legit rotation player. He needs to be starting, and the coaches should've instilled some confidence in him and how he won us games last year with his play. Instead he comes back to hear that his spot is wide open. Pretty hard not to lose confidence when the coaching staff instills zero...
i think a lot of his lack of development and situation awareness difficulties are a result of him staying one year in college. This is his 3rd year in the NBA, so it would have been his senior year in college. He's still pretty young. This is the year that he should make some strides. If not then he's another Jordan Hill (late bloomer who turned out OK)
