This guy has been the surprise of the season in my opinion. Over his last eight starts he's 5-0 with a 1.69 era.
i don't know how anyone could argue that. I mean aside from altuve's incredible year, or carters 2nd half. yes he has been the stand out pitching surprise no doubt. I wondered at first why he pitched so high in the zone with his limited velocity, but when I realized thats what they coach him to do, to take advantage of the upward arc on swings these days, good story.
I would say I can't wait to see MadMax' tattoo, but I hear it will be on his left butt cheek, so I'm good.
Something I didn't recognize until I saw it in an interview. McHugh still has rookie status. Abreu has put together an insane rookie season so he has no chance, but in a normal year he would be an extremely strong ROY candidate. It certainly seems Luhnow and his nerds deserve some credit on this find.
and Keuchel's insane season that we've almost gotten too used to fangraphs articles on all these guys are solid, if you haven't read them
They picked up McHugh because he has a world class curveball that he was not using optimally. They said, throw your curve more often, and he did. They said, working off your curve, get your fastball up in the zone, and he did. You have to give credit to Luhnow and the eggheads for McHugh and Sipp, if nothing else.
Just wanted to stop in to say that I was absolutely wrong about this man. I kept waiting for the floor to fall out from under him, but he has made me eat crow (very happily) and continued to get better. Great move. Almost makes up for JD Martinez (ouch)
haha. also, i would say feldman quietly ended up having a slightly better year than i, and i'm sure most people, expected out of him.
4.20 ERA, 97ERA+, 1.277 WHIP, 4.02 FIP over the last 4 years (503.2IP). If he was our #4 starter, I think I would be happy.
Not bad for a 3rd starter IMO Keuch and McHugh clearly 1 and 2, i'd say Feldman is the #3 guy on the staff. And for what we are paying him, he's been plenty good for a #3 IMO
