Agreed. He will struggle next to a ball-dominating guard like Kobe, just as he did next to Harden. He was at his best with Harden on the bench, but even then the only thing that improved was his aggressiveness and confidence. He still struggled with turnovers, decision making, and reading the second line of defense when penetrating. He wasn't a horrible defender, but showed a lack of lateral quickness despite being speed going up and down the court, and looked lost too often on defense, Harden or no. His game has been dissected to pieces, and he probably needs a new environment to grow. Not sure LA is that place, but it's no longer a Rockets problem.
This. Lin did not do well when he had to play a secondary role and he is not good enough to play a primary role. He was a poor defender that was just about had the worst instincts in the NBA on switching. He was streaky, and made too many mistakes when the game was on the line. I don't care about the $15,000,000 price tag, he just was a bad fit with the Rockets and is a bad fit on any team that is playoff caliber unless he really changes his game. He is Ronald Murray.
This is Rockets board with Rockets fans, why do you think we care about the Knicks? Oh that's right, you are fan of only one player and never a team. unless that one player is lebron james, you might be disappointed at every board you join because people on the board are not like you.
He seemed to be a pretty good fit after Harden just got here, especially when Harden said he would also play off the ball. Lin only became a "bad fit" after McHale gave Harden an easy way out to have the ball in hand all the time. I fully buy that, and teams should be built around cornerstones, and the better fitting PB replaced Lin in the starting line up as a result, after McHale praised Lin's improvement. Still, Lin wasn't a bad fit when PB was out, and the results wasn't shabby either. Speaking of worthy on a playoff team or contending team in Rockets, Lin was not a bad fit getting paid for 5 million. Had Canaan been a better fit, he would have eaten up Lin's minutes last season. But now when 15 million is due, Canaan is all of the sudden a better fit or worthy of playoff team? How does that logic work? After all, the original better fitting PB started, while Lin wasn't traded. Lin with a 15-million-dollar tag got dumped at all cost, and you are telling that's not 15 million reasons about money, but rather about Fit? That's very disingenuous to say the least.
He was dumped for 2 reasons. Cap space for Bosh/free agent. He didn't fit well with this group and we were never going to keep him longer than that 3rd year. I don't believe for a second that the money was more than a very, very small consideration in what we did.
He didn't fit well, but we still could use him. He was 1 of 2 sizable contracts that we could actually use to trade for a bigger contract. I just don't think there were a lot of teams looking at Lin and his contract, in any year of it, that were really interested. PG is deep. The last year was likely the easiest and least costly time to move him.
1. morey and les were ready to pay 15m to role player who was a good fit to the rockets if the contracg was more trade friendly. fit > money 2. pels traded for asik and gave up a 1st rd pick because he was a good fit even he had a 15m price tag. no team thought lin was going to be a good fit. the rockets even gave up their late first rd pick to entice a team to take the risk. again fit > money
Amare hasn't been a good fit, but still usable, for the Knicks for a while now. The money made it hard to do anything about it. Same thing with Lin.
With all the spin, poison pill was a genius product from Morey. With 5 million a year, Rockets wouldn't have got this bad fit to start with. That first round pick was to share some profit/benefit Rockets enjoyed/endured in the first 2 years, for other team to take a mediocre PG for 15 million.
Lin was a bad fit because when it came to pivotal games like the playoffs, his shiny regular season super awesome plays became bada$$ turnovers for the wrong team. If you are making the playoffs anyway, who needs Jeremy Lin? I can't wait to watch Kobe tell him off on the floor. Dude is just not a smart player.
rockets didn't trade lin for someone else. they DIDN'T want to trade him for someone else. they didn't want anyone back that could impact the cap. lakers didn't have anything to give in terms of picks - all they had were a few million bucks that they ended up giving the rockets. the whole "if you're good then you wouldn't be traded with a pick" is r****ded. rockets had a small, small window to trade him for cap space and EVERYONE knew that. what would anyone give rockets anything of value when the rockets had NO LEVERAGE. it was a buyers market and the lakers asking price was the lowest. rockets traded lin and 1st round pick for cap space - cap space is SOMETHING of value when you need it.
I have nothing against Lin. I wish him the best. That said, what is the over/under on how long LOF will still be coming on here spouting off about him? I'm putting it at 2016.
year 1: injury - bruised chest , he looked lost when he was out there, one of the worst playoff debuts ever year 2: some highs and lows, however basketball IQ was exposed as very low, strange decisions on when to attack the basket vs pass or a run a play air ball over the backboard, mo williams steal
I thought we traded two picks to get rid of Lin... one of the few mistakes on Morey's part, but it had to be done. The silver lining is the team bball iq improves. Lin had easily one of the lowest iq's, bball wise on last year's team. That says a lot because last years team was pretty dumb with Parsons forgetting to dribble before he moves, Jones not knowing where he is, and Lin was just all over the place at times.
How is it a mistake? Rockets were all in for Bosh and needed the cap space. No one was taking Lin with that contract for mediocre production without some sweeteners attached. His production or non production on several nights will not be hard to replace. Rockets get cap space and a "Lin TPE" of $ 8.4 million to absorb some contract or use in a sign and trade, likely a better player than Lin
