Valid post... but in the comparison, keep in mind it isn't ALL CBA related. As boring as many now find baseball (myself included), revenues have nonetheless continued to rise in that sport, and in large part due to the number of games played, MLB brought in revenues of $8 billion+ a year, and NBA only did $4.6 billion.
True. But there are many more players in MLB than there are in the NBA so the pie is sliced more ways. The average salary in MLB is lower than the average salary in the NBA but the top guys in MLB gets paid more than those in the NBA.
I don't think KD has the off court charisma to warrant this much of an investment. He's too much into bball and very little into anything else.
Interesting comment in light of the fact that Durant just decided not to play basketball for Team USA while Parsons is staying on (as far as we know).
If Parsons had a pending deal worth $320 million do you really think his agent would let him risk it? Not a chance in hell
KD, Curry, Jennings, DeAndre Jordan, Raymond Felton, Greivis Vasquez and Kemba Walker. Under Armour on the rise! lol
UA is trying to take the Adidas spot not the Nike spot and don't underestimate the power of basketball players... I bought a pair of Reeboks once just because John Walls name was on them, but that didn't last long.
Now Durant can come to Houston when his contract is up and money won't be an issue! Thanks Under Armour!
I'm not saying UA is trying to take Nike's spot. I am saying that UA is doing what Nike did when they signed Tiger Woods to a ridiculous (for that era) contract. Before Tiger, Nike had zero presence in the golf market, and now they're probably second or third behind Titleist and maybe Taylormade. UA currently has little presence in the basketball market, but they are trying to sign a superstar to push into the bball market. It's a good business ploy, but I just don't know if $325 mil is worth it.
What they need to do is sign better shoe designers. Unless you're an established name like Jordan it doesn't matter who endorses your shoes because if they're ugly then you're not gonna sell shoes. The current crop of Under Armor shoes are worse than what And1s used to put out.
Derrick Rose begs to differ. He might have Asperger's and still has amazing commercials. It's actually a bit cool that he seems disinterested in anything but basketball.
About 80-100 mil difference in the contract that KD just got, vs what DRose got from adidas. UA is about to make KD a franchise like Air Jordans.
Has anybody mentioned that the UA contract is the reason KD pull out of USA basketball? Timing seems too good. I know some might argue that team USA would increase his global market value but somebody at UA might disagree.
This is a great move for UA. It gives them a huge star to build their basketball brand around. In the grand scheme of things $325 million isnt a bad number since the benefits can be much larger for UA. As others have mentioned they need to up their quality as their shoes currently are awful. They need to invest more in creating a better product.
