Jones is decent rebounder and pretty good weak side shot blocker. As everybody has noticed, he is a bad man to man defender. He is not small by any means, so he has got to learn to use his body to lean on the defender without fouling him. I wonder if his early development as a pg (no physical contact) has something to do with his overall weak defense. Could the Rockets give a call to Moses and see if he could give Jones a few pointers? Moses was as physical as they come and unlike Jones, Moses invited contact.
One of SA's strengths is being able to control the tempo of the game. Last year, they played more up tempo than any year they had with the big 3. I doubt that was it.
Jones had the 3rd highest PER among players that were in his draft class. 1. Anthony Davis 26.5 PER 2. Andre Drummond 22.6 PER 3. Terrance Jones 19.1 PER 4. Damian Lillard 18.6 PER Yes, even higher than Damian Lillard. Now I'm not saying he's better than Lillard but this is valuable information regarding how Jones panned out (and will continue to pan out) for the Rockets last year. He was also fourth in Win Shares after Davis, Drummond, and Lillard. Since 2000-2001, there have been 39 players who posted a PER of 18 or higher in their 2nd year while playing enough minutes per game to qualify for league leader stats and Jones is 28th on that list (Basketball-Reference stats). That might not sound like much but it's a pretty impressive list considering most of those players have been an All-Star in their career and those who haven't been an All-Star: Andre Miller Tiago Splitter Jose Calderon Ronnie Brewer DeMarcus Cousins Andre Drummond Greg Monroe Kemba Walker Kenneth Faried Are pretty good in their own right except for Brewer.
Nba.com sportvu data shows the spurs as a team on average ran more per game and at a faster pace than we did on the season.
What is meaningless is YOUR PREDICTIONS which always has a tendency to be false. We did not play the spurs so losing to the blazers does not in any way validate your claim. Aldridge played an unbelievable series and there was no active PF who would have him well for the series.
Saying that "no one would have done well" isn't really a good defense for putting the worst possible PF on him especially given how close some of the games were.
What would have been our solution since we were limited to Dmo or TJ? David Robinson was the regular season MVP when the dream just torched him like he has a little leager but nobody criticized him for being a weak defender. What would SA could have done? Should hey have taken out the season MVP and had that person guard Hakeem ? LA had an incredible series which was almost Hakeem like and to criticize a 22 yr old against an established superstar does not seem to be fair.
I agree with your logic. Kevin Durant, Lebron James and the rest of the NBA who did not win a ring last year were trash
The solution was Asik. Asik did water down Aldridge's efficiency and contained him. Anytime we went back to _ones we got molested by Portland's bigs. To bad it didn't happen earlier. However Asik wouldn't have gotten is by the Spurs. The only way to beat last years Spurs is to out offense them. Make them chase like they made everybody else chase with their ball movement and then out gun them in the 4th quarter. There is a defense for every offense. And skeins that defense is making them defend on the other end.
Ok, so your brand of basketball is to abandon the lineup that got you 54 wins? Remember the failed twin tower experiment that got immediately abandoned? Do you have any clue as to amount of offensive and defensive adjustment that needs to take place for the whole team if they were to somehow change it? If so, how long do you think they need in order for them to play effectively? Lets just say we won the series based on Asik guarding LA, what happens on the next series, do we re-adjust again? Your basketball knowledge seems to be limited to just one on one comparisons.
I'd have kept either Howard or Asik on him at all times and played DMo at the 5, Jones only should have been in the game against Thomas Robinson.
no SA was just decent at a transition defense not great at it. To beat the Rockets you had to have a superior transition defense like Memphis gave us and force us into a half court game.
yes Yes they liked to run but they could not stop us from running too and we are maybe the best at that game.
