I don't really care how the players feel. If we had gotten Bosh, none of this stuff would have come out. We missed, but are in good position to add another significant player. Winning cures all ills.....see Kobe and Shaq (kinda).
yep, although if players are freely giving up information about someone trash talking someone, they probably don't hold much weight in it. These people are humans, the willingness to give up information is inversely proportional with the value they put on it.
Agreed. The thing that explains this that most people overlook is morey is focused on one goal: Getting the right personnel to give the rockets the best possible chance of winning a championship. He believes that the best chance, is three stars. That's not to say we couldn't have won it with less, but his goal as a GM, is to get those probabilities as high as possible.
It's not like Chandler was looking at a Dallas offer and a Houston offer, and chose against Houston. It's not like Chandler reciprocated the trust or gave up anything because it was Dallas/Cuban (like Dirk did). He got a ridiculously player-friendly max deal, perhaps the best possible deal he could have gotten.
Well...I can understand that from Parsons' standpoint. If the Rox matched he didn't want to be a trade pawn. So I don't blame him for that. The problem starts with and ends with Dan Fegan. He's a snaaaaaaake! I had a feeling when Parsons signed with him that it wasn't going to end good.
They used it for their backup point guard, not a 3rd point guard. Felton is just a shell filled with lard and old fumes...
Yes....and he could have communicated with Morey and Les what was happening and had a convo with them before signing the offer sheet in a club. It's not like he was being held captive or something. Bottom line on that is: Chandler Parsons did not trust Morey and Les to do him right. It sure seemed he trusted them before he hooked up with Fegans.
I can understand Asik's frustrations even, it seemed like a shallow trade attempt mid season (but then, Asik hadn't really played all season so...)
Whats wrong with that?? surely the team will have a high roster turn over, but our GM is finding new combinations/permutations that help us get better. One has to sift through millions of rocks to get a few unrefined diamonds(valuable draft picks/draft steals)...eventually those unrefined diamonds are cut/reshaped and packaged out for cash or more valuable stones... For the past several years, the Rockets have sifted through the dregs of the NBA and found a right combination of garbage that netted James Harden. And because of Harden, Howard came along. Just because we lost some pieces that we got attached to along the way, doesn't mean we should lose sight of the fact that we were able to parlay cra.p for something of actual value: Harden and Howard. And the chances of having two stars in their primes increases the likely-hood of a team being able to win more than any other factor. Eventually when you have a core of dudes that really matter, you will find scrubs of all caliber flocking to join. Want an example, please refer to the dying corpses of Mike Miller and Ray Allen...
Another point on trust here. Dirk didn't like when Cuban and Donnie tore down the 2011 championship team that same summer. He wanted to keep the gang together and make another run. Hasn't been back to the Finals since. But ultimately Dirk yielded and accepted it from Cuban. He coulda got pissed off and left this summer as a result of Cuban tearing down a championship team..but he didn't. And now...not only did he accept playing for a non-contender for the last 3 season but now he's playing for about a third of what he's worth on the open market. How's that different than what Les and Morey were asking of Parsons here? The difference is Dirk had been to the summit, won a ring, and gotten paid. Parsons is on the front end of all that. I have no doubts that if Parsons had continued to trust Les and Morey that he would have been rewarded just like Dirk was and he could have become a lifetime Rocket because of the sacrifices he was willing to make early in his career. But we'll never know now. Because Fegans entered the picture.
At the end of the day, both sides won. Chandler got paid and is in a better situation for him in Dallas (gets to be the second option and more freedom to create on offense). The Rockets got a better and cheaper fit in Ariza for their system and current needs. That really should be the end of the story. Chemistry might actually improve this season without Parsons and Asik. Players who are quick to bad mouth an organization that did them favors when they didn't have to (Parsons getting paid a year early and Asik traded to a team playing with the perfect PF compliment to look good in a contract year) aren't typically as solid of locker room guys as they may have been portrayed.
I think through all this there was a genuine concern that he was going to be shipped out for Durant in '16 (the newest honorary member of beard gang). You have Durant saying he misses playing with Harden, hanging out with him everywhere, general understanding that no one in their right mind, not even RC Buford would keep him over Durant. Even if Durant isn't coming, the doubt had to be there, it just did. That the contract seemed geared to making him virtually untradeable in '16 can't have been by accident.
Everyone did their job here: - Fegans got a deal that way exceeds his clients value and Parson's feels like its a good situation for him to grow - Cuban got his guy (side note: why isn't Parsons emo about how he went after Melo first?) and got to screw the Rockets - The Rockets protected their interests Don't understand why CP should be upset.
Dirk seems to be a guy who looks at his bank account and thinks there's too many zeroes for him to care, it's just not the same cultural background.
