Did Aminu get recruited by the best recruiter in the NBA?

Even with a player option?? I completely agree with Morey on this. Unless you're a top 5 talent at your position, you don't get player options.

Yeah I guess you didn't realize that "random twitter guy" is actually a Mavs beat writer who has been covering them excellently for years.

(Still doesn't mean I co-sign on the rubbish he tweeted. Best offseason ever? C'mon Mr. Price. I gotta respond to his tweet.)

Multiple teams gave up on him???
One team traded him in order to receive one of the 3 best point guards in the game (if not the best in the game currently).
The other team just didn't re-sign him.

That probably explains why there's a whole bunch of experienced NBA vets who had been full-time starters most of their careers (Jameer Nelson, Richard Jefferson, Raymond Felton, Al-Farouq Aminu) now sitting on the Mavs' bench as mere backups.

Meanwhile the Rockets bench is populated with unproven D-League projects that have hardly played in the NBA at all (D-Mo, Canaan, Covington, Daniels). Frankly, those are usually the kind of players who have no leverage to demand a player option on a minimum salary contract.

If you want to convince an established NBA starter to join your team as a low-paid backup, you gotta compromise or they'll take their talents elsewhere.

That says more than enough. Teams don't just let lotto picks walk unless they suck.

The Mavs are shaping up really nice for a strong 1st round exit.

If Marion leaving was a certainty, then that is a good bounce back signing. Absolute steal for a unique basketball chess piece - never going to be a clear starting forward, but he does provide a good Marion impersonation (without the polished scoring).

Of course you're not going to move the needle by signing guys in their 20s to min contracts - if a 23-year-old is available at the min there's something wrong with him. But it's a min contract, so it's essentially zero risk, medium reward.

I am proud to have called a Mavs beat writer a "random twitter guy." That is the completely appropriate terminology, given that I'm a true Rockets fan.

Guy is delusional in any case, and it sounds like you agree. Cheers.

Yeah, what's to lose really? Aminu couldn't find a better deal this year, he'll be coming off the bench, he's choosing to bet on himself as it is. In this instance I'm not seeing how a player option affects any party negatively. Does it make his contract a tiny bit less tradeable? I don't think Dallas cares. I don't think most teams care. Not at $2.7mil.

But he wasn't their lottery pick. (If you were referring to the Hornets/Pelicans).

The reason the Mavs are signing everyone is because they are giving the players- 2nd yr player options,,, and of course Morey doesnt do player option :)
