http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/sto...adipo-trey-burke-tim-hardaway-jr-marcus-smart The 13 players: Harrison Barnes (Golden State Warriors) Trey Burke (Utah Jazz); Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls) Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors) Tim Hardaway Jr. (New York Knicks) Tobias Harris (Orlando Magic) Doug McDermott (Chicago Bulls) Victor Oladipo (Orlando Magic) Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn Nets) Miles Plumlee (Phoenix Suns) Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics) Dion Waiters (Cleveland Cavaliers) Cody Zeller (Charlotte Hornets)
Cody is the most questionable to me. I don't see how you can go with him. Lots of clutchfans talk about TJ having a lot of trade value. I see this as a blow to that.
Zeller, Waiters, and Green over Jones? No. And Harrison Barnes was pretty awful last year too, he still just gets credit for his great playoff performance a year ago.
Meh. USA Basketball is hugely a popularity contest. Also might have something to do with Jones' off the court issue last Summer. There might be some rules about having a clean record that is hanging over his head since its connected with representing the country (not sure if he's serving a probation or if he's still got community service left to deal with). Since its a popularity contest, I really could care less. Get ready for October/September. If you get yourself good enough, USA basketball will eventually come calling.
If you watched Zeller in the first half of the year, I'd agree with you. But since the ASB last year, Cody had 29 games at an ORtg: 113, DRtg: 102, +/-: +1.6, MPG: 18.4, Pts: 7.7, TRB: 4.8, AST: 1.2. Cody hit a Rookie Sliding Board rather than a Wall and I don't think he's questionable on that roster.
McDermott and Smart have played 0 NBA minutes. Zero. I would take Jones over Barnes, Green, Waiters and Zeller. Interesting comparing him to the Plumlees, but I would probably take Jones over them too. Not that it matters. I'm just hoping to see an improvement in Jones over last year more than I care if he makes the USA team.
Marcus Smart isn't Mr. Clean either. Are all these guys more popular than TJ? I doubt it. He's a 22 yr old who averaged 12pts on 54% shooting along with a block and 7 board. And while he's not a stretch 4 he's got 3-point ability. Should have made it. (19.14 PER)
Draymond Green, Mason Plumlee, and Cody Zeller are all considerably worse than T-Jones, hopefully he uses this as motivation and makes a bigger jump next year than anticipated.
I equate Draymond Green being named to this team as pretty much the same as when Luther Head was named to the Select Team.
I wouldn't. The response was to Cody being "the most questionable" to which I'd present exhibit A: Harrison Barnes. If you were looking for "the most questionable" I don't think Cody is your guy (unless we are isolating how he began his NBA career).
Yes but both Smart and McDermott have been on team USA in the past and likely have more USA basketball experience that most of the rest of the team.
who cares? select team is only there for team usa to beat you can't pick a team that has a chance to beat them
