May as well close the thread on that one... I guess Bob McNair doesn't like to wipe his @** because he did the same ish with Charlie and Kubiak.
Strange thing . . .. Wasn't the first draft . . Charlie and Kubiak one of the Texans best? [Kubiaks' input was not as strong as with Rick Smith cause Charlie was the incumbant and was on his way out and didn't give a FIG] Rocket River
Wasn't that the year McNair brought in Dan Reeves as a consultant...? I don't know how much input he had if any on the draft though. I just think it's bad business to hire a coach before the GM because if Smith does get fired next year than the next guy will be O'Brien's puppet just like Smith was with Kubiak.
Casserly had very little input on that draft. It was pretty much all Kubiak... and this was prior to Rick Smith. Again, Kubiak hired Smith as a figure-head to deflect a lot of the nitty-gritty GM issues (cap management, contract extension negotiations)... but Kubiak was the one mostly calling the shots (hence the defense as to why Smith was allowed to "keep" his job). Smith hasn't had enough of impact on draft decisions, good/bad to be evaluated to be a competent GM. Truly a figure-head.
He threw Kubes under the bus. I believe during the firing press conference one reporter actually pointed at Rick and asked "Why does he still have a job?"
I think all we need to know of his current stature in the organization is that he doesn't appear to have even been in the picture as far as convincing AJ to report to camp.
