You're delusional if you don't think Horace grant had a great year in 91-92. Points, steals, rebounds, blocks, phenomenal shooting percentage,...

He had the third highest win shares of all players in the league, that is elite performance for that year. You trying to make it more than that is nonsense as it the caveat was offered that it was not sustained, still a brilliant year, and a solid player with multiple all defensive team honors.

Dispute the stats all you want, he had an elite year.

    Win Shares

    1. Michael Jordan*-CHI 17.7
    2. Karl Malone*-UTA 15.1
    3. Horace Grant-CHI 14.1
    4. David Robinson*-SAS 13.9
    5. John Stockton*-UTA 13.4
    6. Patrick Ewing*-NYK 13.0
    7. Clyde Drexler*-POR 12.8
    8. Scottie Pippen*-CHI 12.7
    9. Dennis Rodman*-DET 12.6
    10. Charles Barkley*-PHI 12.3
    11. Larry Nance-CLE 12.2
    12. Brad Daugherty-CLE 11.7
    13. Jeff Hornacek-PHO 11.6
    14. Reggie Miller*-IND 11.0
    15. Chris Mullin*-GSW 10.8
    16. Terry Porter-POR 10.6
    17. Kevin Johnson-PHO 10.0
    18. Detlef Schrempf-IND 9.8
    19. Danny Manning-LAC 9.8
    20. Dan Majerle-PHO 9.8

Btw how did the Spurs have 3 elite players?

There is a very good argument that they had none. No one played significant minutes on that team. Tony Parker was laughably bad in the playoffs and Kawhi is a very good role player but not an elite player. Duncan was also very good but played few minutes.

He was definitely elite by the standards of the TC which don't seem very high considering he thinks that there are 3 elite players on the 2014 Spurs.

The point is, you were wrong. Indiana drafted Kawhi, and the spurs traded for him because he was a shiny object in the stream. They used an asset to get him, sound familiar? You know, something like Morey would do.

We didn't go further because parsons has a big mouth and came up small and he played crappy D and gave up a series winning 3. If better d was on lillard, rox win game 6 then come home and win game 7 and we don't have this conversation. Portland is a good team, parsons sucked and we lost.

It won't happen again, we upgraded and have ariza now.

Huge Harden fan, but that play in particular, and arguably the series is on The Beard.

It's interesting because pop plays a lot of people, keeping his stars well rested for playoffs, but three spurs show up in top 20 win shares per 48. And not included. In that list is Duncan and Parker, so no one should doubt that the spurs have plenty of talent. Kawhi is an emerging star.

    Win Shares Per 48 Minutes

    1. Kevin Durant-OKC .295
    2. Chris Paul-LAC .270
    3. LeBron James-MIA .264
    4. Kevin Love-MIN .245
    5. Stephen Curry-GSW .225
    6. James Harden-HOU .221
    7. Anthony Davis-NOP .212
    8. Blake Griffin-LAC .205
    9. Dirk Nowitzki-DAL .199
    10. Kyle Lowry-TOR .197
    11. Kawhi Leonard-SAS .193
    12. Joakim Noah-CHI .190
    13. Goran Dragic-PHO .186
    14. DeAndre Jordan-LAC .186
    15. Andre Drummond-DET .182
    16. Paul George-IND .178
    17. Manu Ginobili-SAS .176
    18. Andrew Bogut-GSW .176
    19. Robin Lopez-POR .176
    20. Patrick Mills-SAS

So they had three third wheels better than parsons to go with Duncan and Parker.

OP forgot the guy who has more rings than Jordan on a few of these teams, Robert Horry.

Also Elite does not mean best player in the nba. There are Elite Defenders - Mario Elie, Ben Wallace, Tyson Chandler, Vernon Maxwell, Dennis Rodman Elite Shooters - Steve Kerr, Mario Elie, Ray Allen Elite Rebounders - Rodman, Ben Wallace Elite Shot Creators - Rip Hamilton, Tony Parker

you're correct in the meaning of elite.

but Morey doesn't seem to see it that way. if Morey had any of those elite defenders/shooters/shot creators you named as the 3rd 'elite" player after Harden and Howard, I guarantee you he would still have gone after Melo and Lebron because he thinks star power (and more of it) is the only way to the title

I doubt it. He just wants a team that is a contender for titles. If he had a chance to improve the team he would. What gm would not? Tim purpura? Ha ha

What, are you implying that a team should fit together like a puzzle? Blasphemy, I want to see Morey's stats on this ridiculous theory you indirectly state.

The three elite players myth has died. It has never been true, nor will it ever be true.

You mean Pop learned from Larry Brown... But yea, Larry Brown is the best IMO. He can make something out of nothing and has a track record to prove it. He's doing it now here in Texas.

And yes, it's more than just the X's and O's. It's like you have to be a part time psychiatrist. That's what made Phil so good because he's a master manipulator and Tex was his X's and O's guy. Remember when Larry Bird was coaching...? Rick Carlisle was his X's and O's guy.

But when guys like Jordan and Shaq/Kobe can't win without good coaching than how and the heck can we expect these youngsters to win without good coaching.

McHale has to get better. We can't just keep putting it all on the players shoulders.
