You guys should learn to look forward. So we get Gee and lose Casspi. Instead of working out what Gee can give us and make us better, we look backwards and wallow in how bad Casspi was. Stop looking in the rear mirror. Life will be more fulfilling if we look towards where we're going instead of where we've been. Just a community service announcement ps I liked Casspi though was a bit disappointed in his contributions. But to be fair, he didnt get many opportunities. Catch-22 I guess.
Yeah, whatever. At least doing that is moving forward. Remember that we've no centre or guard cover at the moment. Unless we're happy to go rookie PG this year, which from what I know of McHale, he doesnt play rookies in their first year.
You mean he didn't give Love, Marcus Morris and Chandler Parsons rookie minutes Really? Then you have Beverley and Greg Smith, too, getting 44 and 70 games ppl b**** if their fav rookie doesn't play, but they all can't get minutes.every fan site b****es about the same thing So Mchale got blamed for not playing TJones or DMo, but even DMo got 44 games Fact is: he played Chandler very early. And marcus Morris. And as we can see now, they are far superior to TJones and DMo And playing bev showed he wil play anyone who tries. Greg Smith played 70 games. But we don't care about non drafted rookies; they don't count when we are in the bizness of blaming coaches
Apparently the non guaranteed contract of Scotty Hopson was also sent to the Rox. The Cavs traded him to Charlotte during their summer league game on Friday. He played the first half of that game but got traded at halftime. Not sure how he ended up in New Orleans. BTW, not a stathead but Gee is a slightly better player than Casspi which isn't saying much. Gee is the more physical defender. The Cavs tried to convert him from a college PF to a 3 and D type SF but he would usually catch the ball in the corner and instead of shooting would typically dribble into traffic and commit a turnover. Cavs lost their patience, benched him and acquired Deng. He might be helpful off the bench but his non guaranteed contract is the real appeal.
You are absolutely right and I just can't understand why Morey did this unless he didn't have an alternative. Not only is Casspi a better player than Gee, but the most important feature, that everybody seems to ignore, is that Casspi with his vet min contract did not count for the cap. Gee has a non-guaranteed $3.3 mil contract. The Pelicans now got a better SF for no effect on their cap. The Rockets sent them Asik, a high quality center and a bench quality SF +first round pick and money, for basically a hardly bench quality SF. Ariza could have been signed directly without all that. It does not look like a very good trade to me.
Instead of Gee, I wanted rights to Patric Young. But aside from Gee's contract, Gee is an extremely physical wing defender who is still developing his offensive game away from basket (former PF). One of Morey's goals after season was to improve D so would not be completely shocked if he is retained.
