GOAT question I don't think this thread has been done before, but the Webber thread provoked me to ask Here's my take PG- Magic SG-I don't know (aren't they supposed to shoot). I'll say dumars SF-Bird PF-Webber C-Walton/Sabonis
Lebron is the best passing SF ever by most metrics. I think I'm gonna go with Clyde Drexler for SG, actually. There are a few combo guards that could be ahead of him but if we're going pure SG, I'm going with Glyde.
Don't think there's a true GOAT for each position, would think there's at least two guys tied most of the times. PG - Magic/Stockton SG - Alvin Robertson/Wade/Iverson SF - Bird/LeBron PF - Webber/Garnett C - Walton/Sabonis/Divac
I once saw Webber try to put spin on a pass by placing both hands on either side of the ball, flicking up horizontally on one side, and down on the other, to kind of curve it... that ball went sailing so far out of bounds. Since that day... no Webber for me. Anthony Mason at the 4, please.
A very distant second to Larry Bird. Finding the open man is not quite the same as orchestrating an entire offense.
Lebron orchestrates the entire offense. Come on. Don't be ridiculous. They're in the same tier. <iframe class="vine-embed" src="https://vine.co/v/MhD1bVE1iXA/embed/simple" width="600" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script async src="//platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Yes. And, btw, It's for you to prove, not me and Red Auerbach. No Driving and finding the open man is what all PGs do. There is nothing special about Lebron's passing at GOAT-comparison levels. He's no better than TMac. Bird, on the other hand, is the second best passer in the history of the game, next to Magic.
HeyP, you must've forgotten the Cleveland seasons or only casually watch LeBron. His passing instincts and vision is world class, he doesn't just drive and dish.
Bird and Magic are the litmus test of >6'8 passers. Not Lebron. Lebron is very good and comparable to TMac. Sorry you don't agree with me and Red Auerbach
So no, you don't have empirical evidence. Weird logic but okay. Let's start with the fact that Lebron assisted on 34.2% of teammates' field goals' for his career while Bird assisted on 24.7%
Lebron handled the ball 90% of the time with the cavs. He was their offense. You can't compare that with bird who had legit HOF options.
And so, what does that prove? I guess it means Lebron didn't have teammates in Cleveland like Kevin McHale who scored on their own. Your empirical evidence is being misused by you. So, you basically have nothing else to use to make your point that Lebron has surpassed Bird as the best passer next to Magic. Sorry you don't understand.
I am agreeing with you. I think Lebron was a better passer than Bird. I think he is better at everything than bird except shooting.
