http://www.vox.com/2014/4/6/5556462/brain-dead-how-politics-makes-us-stupid An interesting article on bias, preconception and reasoning People weren’t reasoning to get the right answer; they were reasoning to get the answer that they wanted to be right.
There is a big misunderstanding: climate models are not facts. The author even demonstrates his thesis with this statement: Facts, graphs and charts: now wrong and irrelevant.
The juice boxers at Vox want to cast leftist political ideology as objective truth. They aren't fooling anyone and it isn't a novel approach. Everyone believes their ideology is objectively true.
I had never heard of Vox until this morning, the link was in a tweet from Nate Silver But it is hilarious that the usual suspects just fall right into the narrative of the piece.
This article points out that people are able to believe that absolutely factual facts are inaccurate as a result of their ideology. It also points out that it happens on both the right and the left, neither camp is immune.
I sent the article to my brother and my teabag friend trying to understand how we come from the same backgrounds but have such virulent opposing views. Their responses were the same as here.... attack the author rather than consider the validity of the information, blissfully unaware of the irony.
Yeah, why are the right-leaning people taking offense while left-leaning people embrace the idea? The article is accusing both groups of illogical reasoning.
You obviously didn't read the article. The author REPEATEDLY points out that he is just as guilty as everyone else.
