He probably went to the Tesla SHOWROOM in Dallas. From their they processed his order on the internet or something and Tesla delivered his car to his house. Since he's in Texas and registers in Texas, he would have Texas plates, which a poster above found slightly strange.
Test drove one about a month ago and it's an absolutely amazing car! Have spoken to a couple people who have one. One was driving an Aston Martin before and the other a Porsche Panamera. Both of them said they will never be able to drive an ICE after moving to a Tesla. Can't believe how much hate it can garner from some people. Best reason to get it - Finally a luxury car that can stand up to the Germans, but made in the USA!
As far as electric cars...thats one of the best ranges I've seen. If they can figure out a way to charge it fully in less than 20min, and get a decent amount of chargers in each city. This could actually be the first electric car worth buying....that is..after they drop the price 30K. Tesla has the best future outlook of any electric car - hope it works out.
They are planning on putting battery swap stations throughout the country, in addition to superchargers. So for a premium price, you can drive up and a robotic arm will swap out your battery for a fully charged one.
Invest voluntarily, don't subsidize by force. Tesla should have to compete for my investment dollars with companies like Google, Ford, etc. And they are compelled to give me a return on my investment as part of the deal. Instead they get funding by force from the taxpayer. We take all the risk, Musk reaps all the reward.
I would love to have one, and 300 miles is plenty to drive around town with, just have another car for longer trips... DD
The service/maintenance stuff is absurd. Service people can't advertise that they work on Teslas? They can't even talk to you about what's wrong with your car?
Texas can try to make it as difficult as they want, but it really wasn't that difficult. Go check it out in person at the Galleria and customize online. Yes they weren't able to answer some questions related to price, etc., but they just connect you with a rep in CA and they can answer all questions. Then once you get the car delivered there is a service center in Houston and they are pretty damn good with any questions and service related matters. The slightly annoying, but completely understandable - up until recently most people were successful filing a sales tax exemption in Harris county. The county recently got smart and put a stop to that.
If you can't innovate, litigate. These are such blatant quid-pro-quo anti-consumer power grabs. You just have to roll your eyes at it.
