Backspin is an old school rap station on Sirius. It was great in the beginning, but like all channels on Sirius ('Sup The Wave/ Billy Idol is NOT 80's "New Wave" morons) they now play the same damn songs, not as many obscure ones and they won't change until there's enough b****ing.

But at least they're receptive to input. You could shoot an e-mail to Ed Lover b****ing about the selection and they have some say in what's played. You can't do that with FM radio. If I tried calling or e-mailing 93.7 to play something cool, they wouldn't do it, because they have no say in what was played.

    That is the major problem
FM Radio is basically a 24/7 commercial
Programmed and the DJs are button pushers

back in the day . . . [before my time]
DJ's were personalities that could 'break' songs etc
    now. . . . if you pay . .. you get play
    Payola etc . . . .

Its a damn shame that government allows Clear Channel to have a monopoly on radio here in town. There are drawbacks to satelite radio, as well (e.g. signal cuts out under dense forestry or in parking garages), but from a content point of view satelite has FM radio beat out.

streaming sirius through your phone will prevent a lot of those cut outs...assuming your car's system can play it from your phone.

I love Sirius. I wish the new 93.7 could mix in some classic hip hop with the current stuff. Majic 102 needs some competition also.

I don't live in Houston anymore, so it doesn't have an affect on my listening habits, but I'm sad to see The Arrow go away. That was the station I remembering listening to in my parents cars growing up, so there's a certain level of nostalgia tied to the station for me.

The Arrow sucked. The Eagle sucks also.

Houston hasn't had a decent rock station since the days of ZRock on 1070am / 106.9 FM

I have no idea why commercial terrestrial rock radio continues to ignore those of us who grew up in the 80's listening to Iron Maiden, Dio, Whitesnake, GNR, Queensryche, etc. You can find stations stuck in the 70's like the Eagle, and you can find stations stuck in the 90's, like the Buzz, but us 80's rockers are underserved.

That's why I switched to satellite.

93.7 is kind of awesome, much better mix than 97.9 at the moment. Competition is good.

Say what you want about the repetitive playlists on 93.7, at least the played classic rock. I will sorely miss 'Get the Led Out'. Can someone please explain what the deal is on The Eagle having two stations? better reception?

And The Box plays too much of that girly R&B crap...

106.9 was "The Point"...rock/alternative hits...for a while up until a couple of years ago. It is owned by the same conglomerate, so I guess they don't see it as worth it to operate another station based on previous experience.

When the 80's station went away (forget which one it was) they said they were going to simulcast the Eagle on both stations until they figured out what to do. That was a long time ago, so I guess they still haven't figured it out.

BTW, your username is now officially my favorite username on this bbs.

Damn, not that I listen to either station, but I wonder if 93.7's ratings will last.

Compared to Hip-Hop Nation and Shade 45 on SiriusXM, both 93.7 and 97.9 suck IMO. And even those XM stations grow old from time to time.
