Skid Row are actually still around, but they have had a different singer for the past 10yrs. There have been rumors of a possible reunion with Sebastian Bach but nothing has ever happened. I think there is one guy in the band that is not too keen on getting back with Sebastian and thats basically why they are stuck playing small clubs now.
The Cult - everybody knows who they are now...but back then, they were more of an underground/alternative group.
Faster Pussycat Y & T From the second wave of thrash bands Manowar Testament Overkill Saxon You could say Rainbow because when Dio left there were a different band but they were pretty much done after Blackmore left to do the Deep Purple reunion in 84.
Even tho they are really a 70's hard rock band not enough of you know about where it started; UFO. THE CLASSIC Hard Rock band.
Great choice and you can add Montrose as another great 70's band that never were as big as they should have been.
funny you should mention him...i actually jammed out holy diver while working the other day and was thinking to myself that as well known and well regarded as dio is, he really is underrated. that album kicks all kinds of ass. it is criminally underrated. and is this not the most bad-ass metal album cover of all time???
i think Dio/Black Sabbath hold two of the most underrated metal albums of all time. Strange Highways and Dehumanizer are on constant rotation in my mp3 player.
Ok, they wouldn't be in the category of hair metal- because, well, the lead singer didn't have hair- but maybe the hard-rock category?? <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/zUDIkahrTZY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I LOVE that someone mentioned Fastway. Love this guitar riff: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/D5_oPyavUaw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Oh, you can't forget this band- soon as you hear the first keystrokes, you're like, "Holy s**t- I remember that!!" (OK, maybe not metal- sort of a hybrid): <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/xQLWMvJ3sp4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Its also funny that the former lead singer from Fastway is doing irish influenced music with The Flogging Mollys today.
When I saw The Cult open for Metallica at The Summit in Houston on the Damaged Justice tour on February 4th, 1989, I absolutely hated their set. I thought they played and acted like a bunch of posers. Been a non-fan ever since. Metallica absolutely blew them out of the water. They deserved to be underrated in my book after seeing that show. They definitely should not have been touring with Metallica imo.
A band that I saw once that I never understood how they got on a bill except for shock value: W.A.S.P. Their big thing was drinking fake blood from skulls on stage.
