Has anyone been to Cyclone Anaya's and enjoyed it? I went for the second time a couple of weeks ago with friends and it was absolutely horrible and just as expensive as El Timepiece. The tamale was just like a big roll of bread.

The city centre location left me a bit underwhelmed, but the one near the Museum District (I think?) was a much better experience.

I can't believe this thread is on page 3 without someone mentioning the original Ninfa's on Navigation. Their fajitas are the bomb.

Chuy's has been mentioned multiple times and is on point. Cafe Adobe is pretty good and pretty cheap, though it does cater to the Montrose crowd on certain nights. Nothing like being the only straight couple in town crash pride night at the Adobe, trust me.

I mentioned that Ninfa's hours ago, you're a fajita, bro.

And Pride parade is sweet, there are more scantily clad chicks running around and easy access booze available that night than any other night in Houston.

I like Last Concert Cafe. Add that to my list.

Agreed this place is near work and it's good. I also like Tacos La Bala and La Tapatia...All are good and cheaper than Lupe Tortilla and Pappasitos...

Lopez on Wildrest and 59. The food is every bit as good as El Tiempo and it's much cheaper.

That's because it doesn't exist anymore. There is nothing "original" about that ninfas except the building.

El Tiempo manages the impressive combination of being absurdly expensive and providing terrible food.

In general I'm not crazy about Tex-Mex but if you just HAVE to have it I second Andy's.

    A) I'm not sure those are chiquitas bro
    B) If you want cheap and good, you gotta get outside of the loop.

It's a little outside the loop, but Don Jose's fits the bill. It's at Antoine and Pinemont and is owned by two guys who were waiters for like 20 years until they saved up enough money. You know these guys care about doing it right.

Lunch fajitas are something like $8 and are a decent size, dinner fajitas are bigger. I'm pretty picky about my meat, but don't need a gimmick like Lupe's lime.

The local cops are always in there so you know it's good. =)

The Little Bitty Burger Barn just down the road is quality as well.

How long has it been, exactly, since you've last been in the Montrose area?
