Has any team ever really benefited from a sign and trade?

I know the Rockets haven't... either way (Got Pippen in a S&T, and then traded him away the next year for a bunch of young non-stars...which would be equivalent to this S&T).

I am speaking regarding my sources on the GS side of thinking.

Don't know if Lakers will do S&T. I know reports say they won't, but when push comes to shove, you may need to.

if this is true this good news for Houston but im starting to think if he does want a S&T to GSW that means he might not want to go to Houston and we would get the Dwight Howard that the Lakers got

Not to mention paying the millionaire AND state tax...

Not buying it. (and don't believe L.A. will prefer that package over the potential cap space/flexibility of Dwight walking)

This "3rd star" is key! He put Rockets to the test.

Lets go morey, figure it out. Show him what you can do!!

If not, I don't blame him for not coming to houston and wanting to go to GSW.(or any other team that's gets him)

The trio of Curry + Lee + Howard is pretty darn good.

Steph Curry and Dwight Howard dont sound like a championship to me. Especially when they are shopping Lee.

They have plenty of expiring contracts. Jefferson, Biedrins, Rush, etc. Barnes or Thompson, or both, will be the main incentive for the deal, but they have enough for $ matching purposes.

The question is this, though: After the Warriors give the Lakers what it takes to make a S&T, how much from last year's team will they have lost?

The Lakers will demand at least one, if not both, of Thompson and Barnes. So, that's one of your starting wings. They may ask for Bogut to be that expiring contract as oppose to Biedrins/Jefferson/Rush. Also, in order to receive a signed and traded player, the Warriors will have to stay under the "tax apron" (of about $75M or $76M, I think). This likely means that they are losing one or (more likely) both of Carl Landry and Jarret Jack if they receive decent contract offers elsewhere.

On the other hand, the only one that Houston had to lose out of last year's rotation was Delfino (and his injury replacement Garcia) and the Rockets have plenty of tools at hand to replace them (room exception, trade assets).

Harrison Barnes and an expiring Bogut are nice pieces to have if they try to sign LeBron next year.

    Exactly.

Only way I could see L.A. being interested is if there was a team out there that would get involved and take Bogut with nothing coming back to the Lakers.

Please explain why they would need to esp when there's a crap ton of luxury tax involved.

Out of all the possible players Dwight can play with, no doubt in my mind that James Harden is the best one. Hopefully he'll realize that too.

Bogut expires after this year and you could get some nice young pieces. Thompson etc... (just a thought)

GS is actually the best fit for him depending on how much of the core they can keep with the trade. Can't be mad at him for going there. Plus West has built title teams before.

Agreed. You never know....teams have said no S&Ts before and then gone on to do it. ( See Miami and Toronto)
