No mention of the 1995 Orlando Magic? Shaq, Penny Hardaway, Horace Grant, Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, Darryl Armstrong.
Interesting that several of Adelman's teams make the list... Always seems the refs were against him...riiight.
Lotta youngsters in this thread. 1993-94 Seattle SuperSonics Coach: George Karl Gary Payton Shawn Kemp Detlef Schrempf Sam Perkins Kendall Gill Kemp in his prime was unstoppable. They played a defense that was basically a zone, back when zone's were illegal. They did it so much that the refs just stopped calling them on it. And it sucked if you had a dominate low post player. It seemed like they never missed a three. Just swoosh after swoosh after swoosh and then a monster Kemp dunk. I hated them, not like the Jazz holes who I just loathed for being straight b-tches, but because in my heart of hearts I knew we could never beat them.
Yup. That's one team I've always thought is one of the best but didn't achieve the required chemistry to win it all. I hope Morey will also think about it that talent alone isn't enough.
Well, I think MJ and his Bulls are there. Without them, there's a lot of team including the Jazz' Stockton-Malone and Phoenix' Barkley teams that may have won the championship.
I disagree. Payton was a shell of his former self by the time he went to LA. In his prime, he was at his best playing D, posting up, slashing & setting up the half court. He was never a good 3p shooter which is what you needed to be with Shaq, nor was he the type to hand out dimes like Kidd. Wrong fit for that team and pretty much at the twilight of his career. Karla was also a shell of her former self. She was never a good post player or a great defender. It was obvious that she couldn't bring it without her girlfriend running the pick and roll and setting him up in the paint. Fox was always to busy looking in his compact mirror when he had to play D.
I concur that Payton and Karl isn't in their prime but if I remember it right, Payton game isn't so phased-out yet. He still played with Shaq and Wade in Miami and he still performed at a high level during the playoffs albeit not as good as in his prime. Karl Malone was injured at that time so he's not able to bring his A-game but contributed quite good during their playoff run. Here's his stats during his Lakers stint: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/malonka01.html His numbers are not as good as when in his prime but injuries and the fact the he's sharing the ball with Shaq and Kobe makes his stats acceptable. Here's Payton's numbers: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paytoga01.html His Per 36 during his Lakers stint isn't that low even if you consider his game average which is quite understandable if you have to share ball again with Shaq and Kobe. His game regressed that much only during his Miami stint.
Umm, I think you have to at least get past the first round and not be defeated by an 8th seed to even sniff at the "most talented team never to..." title. Mavericks are a pathetic franchise who got lucky they pulled off a championship- only to become the 1997 Florida Marlins due to an idiotic owner who thinks he knows more about basketball than he actually does. He's lucky Donnie was smart enough to land Dirk.
2003-04 Lakers wins. They did win 56 games in the regular season, so it wasn't a bad team, just no win. Kobe Master Flopper Karl Malone Gary Payton Shaq Horace Grant Byron Russell
How they ended up with a young 19 yr old Gerald Wallace, a 22 yr old Hedo Turkalu, and 24 yr old peja is beyond me. I wonder if maloof picked those guys
Yeah core of Anfernee Hardaway , nick Anderson, Dennis Scott?, horrid grant, and shaq nasty.. Team was set to win a championship.
I agree with the 2008 Rockets...they were paper champions but couldnt deliver due to injuries but still managed to have the streak! I was hyped when Stevie Franchise was back but that nagging injury that derailed his career took him out of his pretty much guaranteed starting job to replace Rafer "Missed Floaters" Alston. Look at the depth! PG- Steve Francis/Alston/Mike James/Rookie Aaron Brooks SG-Tmac/Bonzi Wells SF-Battier/Steve Novak PF-Scola/Landry/Chuck Hayes C-Yao/Deke You cant tell me that an injury free and prime roster of these guys wouldn't win a title.
1987-88 Dallas Mavericks: Rolando Blackman Mark Aguirre Derek Harper Sam Perkins Roy Tarpley (young) Detlef Schrempf Brad Davis James Donaldson Took a very good Lakers' squad to seven.
The 85-86 Lakers. Magic Johnson Byron Scott James Worthy Mo Lucas Kareem with Michael Cooper and a young A.C. Green coming off the bench. We ruined their championship run. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yXOts9kaiLQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
