Dow Jones Industrial Average Soars To Highest Level Since December 2007

NEW YORK — The fastest growth in U.S. manufacturing in 10 months gave stocks a lift Tuesday and pushed the Dow Jones industrial average to its highest close in more than four years.

Manufacturing expanded last month at the strongest pace since June, according to the Institute for Supply Management. Orders, hiring and production all rose.

A measure of manufacturing employment also reached a nine-month high, a hopeful sign ahead of Friday's monthly jobs report.

The manufacturing news jolted stock indexes out of a morning stupor, although the gains waned throughout the afternoon. The Dow added 65.69 points to 13,279.32, its highest closing mark since Dec. 28, 2007, during the first month of the Great Recession.

GDP when Obama took over was around 12.6 trillion

GDP now is about 13.5 trillion.

How was this killing the economy? Please explain - thanks. :)

He means not make the economy recover fast enough after Bush killed it.

I did, it's substantially lower (unless you think 1.5 - 1.8% drop isn't noteworthy).

    It's pitiful

And the number of those simply leaving the workforce has likely been doctored by King Barry, making the unemployment rate look lower than it really is.

It's plain for all to see that Obama has failed miserably on reducing unemployment in this country. A miserable failure.

    "likely" been doctored?

Two can play this game of assumptions....

It is likely that Mormon Zealot bones protestant babies, making children sad. Very sad.

Haha, so sad. He likely maybe did doctored the numbers or something, making it plain to see that he failed.

Indeed - King Barry and his doctors are responsible for the deceptions of reality.

The unemployment rate we see only includes people collection unemployment in the last month.

Actual unemployment, how most other developed countries measure it is around 16%. Not sure what it was under Bush.

Anyways Obama has little control over the economy, no president does.

I guess he could pass an executive order mandating companies to not outsource work to India/Mexico... But that'd be tyrannical.

Did he specify a time frame while he was holding his crystal ball? It is entirely possible that unemployment will be under 6% in a few years, which is a testament to bold policy that learned from the mistakes of the 1930s.
