Because we don't know that happened, and if it did, it still didn't deserve a gun shot. No stitches, no fractured skull, and no concussion are pretty consistent with not getting your head repeatedly smashed into the concrete.
LOL. He was really close to the house he was staying at and had a cellphone but walked up to this guy that he was afraid of to confront him about following him. That's just stupid. Or maybe he was casing houses and didn't want to get caught. Or maybe this kid (who had been suspended from school 3 times in 6 months or so) had a bad attitude and temper and figured he would beat up this shrimp of a guy.
Rather than feeling embarressed about being African American, I'm genuinely proud. (Twist and extrapolate however you see fit) Though occasionally, I feel like I'm a victim of discrimination. But overall, it's pretty good.
I was gonna say basically the same thing. We know Zimmerman said he was punched in the nose and the Police Report said he had a broken nose. We know Martin was on top of him wailing on him (witnesses, grass stains on the back of Zimmerman's clothes and injuries to the back of his head). It's not the severity of the injuries, it's the intent of the attack and Zimmerman feared his life was in danger from a brutal attack by Martin. Anyone getting their head banged on the ground or the cement is going to try to stop that from happening using whatever means they have available.
No, Martin should have been civil and kept his hands to himself. He should have called the Police to report someone who was following him if it bothered him that bad. What would you tell your kids to do?
When I said that Martin encountered Zimmerman "on foot", my point was to emphasize that Zimmerman had left his car, and it would've been very reasonable for Martin to think that Zimmerman was stalking him.
Unless of course, he didn't throw the first punch. I'd tell my kids not to be black and walk from my father's fiance's house at halftime of the basketball game I was watching with them to get skittles and some iced tea. However, I do know when I case houses to rob them, nothing goes better with that than some tasty sugary treats!
What's sadly hilarious about this is if Martin was white and everything else was the same, the same people trying to blame Martin's death on himself would be blaming the overzealous scary Hispanic who was stalking him.
