"Socialist" really grates me. And, even if some of it kinda is, it's definitely better than the abusive capitalist system that meagerly compensates workers.
I'm sure if my sarcasm meter is working correctly. One thing he isn't, is dumb. He's very intelligent and calculated. And knows EXACTLY what's he's doing.
I think the cries of socialism are the most frustrating and the above quote exemplifies why. Most of the "dead horses" regard Obama's ethnicity, religion, and nationality/patriotism; these are all stances that serve as a litmus test for utter stupidity, and it's easy to dismiss outright the racists, bigots, and xenophobes/jingoists who hold them. Now when the Obama-hate is channeled through the labels of "socialism", we get the same craziness but under the guise of a zombiefied McCarthyism (which somehow is still accepted in this age); this, in effect, allows the bigots to voice their irrational hatred in quasi-political terms that aren't as easily ignored. I think the socialism label has really pissed in the political waters and severely misrepresents Obama and what he's trying to do. So many opposing politicians have made it a rallying cry to the point where it has received undue legitimacy as a point of discussion. What the democrats are doing is worlds away from socialism, and yet, I, like Dei did above, have conceded more than I should have in discussions with uninformed friends in efforts to communicate with them. Takeaway: The socialist label gets more traction than the other more easily dismissed dead horses.
