He's got a better shot of playing sf than Morris. He has much better handles than Morris and is a much better passer. If he ever develops a 3 point shot he becomes a viable option at 3 positions and can play the pd spot for short minutes. That's something Morey values. There's very little about this kids on the court play to dislike. But his off the court stuff and character is shaky at best. He had problems in high school and twice at Minnesota for being a thief. The question is he a decent kid doing stupid things or is he just a bad kid that will never be coachable. Right now he is on medication that is supposed to be helping. Even then in the heat of yesterdays game he turned to the Iowa band and screamed "I'm the best!" while thumping his chest. We do have the Hoiberg connection to find out more about him and how bad is this anxiety disorder. I bet Morey is already talking to Doctors about this disorder. Anyway a good prospect who will scare teams away with his past history and they might be right.
He signed with an agent and is going into the draft. http://www.cbssports.com/collegebas.../source-iowa-states-royce-white-headed-to-nba <iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/tfslY_AvhLw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Makes sense. He has a baby. Can use the $ now and should parlay strong March play vs UConn and UK into good draft result. Can always finish college later.
Don't they always tell us not to overreact to March Madness games when evaluating players? Still, the guy has been a beast for a while. If the staff thinks he has the quickness to play defense at the small forward spot I would be all for it. Also having two first rounders this year (out of ours if we miss the playoffs, NY, and the protected Mavs pick) may mean that taking a gamble on a player with mental issues makes more sense.
After watching some tape of this guy, his skill level definitely seems more suited for a wing player then a big guy down low. However his body is a concern. Standing at only 6'8 and weighing in at 270 pounds with below average lateral quickness can effect his effectiveness to make the transition to the three at the next level.
He has no chance to play 3. Even if he dropped 40-50 lbs, he's not built with that kind of quicks. He needs to go ahead and develop at the 4. Nothing wrong with that.
6'8 270 pounds and someone wants him to play the three? You guys are unbelievable. He is the perfect 4.
The soft guy who doesn't contract averages 9.2 rpg in 31.3 minuts and gets to the line 6.0 times per game (vs. 9.6 FGA). Imagine what he would do if he was hard and enjoyed contact.
Seriously, the guy looks like a mix beteween Blake Griffin and Lebron. He just needs to lose about 15 to 20 pounds.
Alot of Anthony Mason in his game. This kid is a much better passer though. Man those highlights were impressive. He'd be a nice addition to any team, expect him to rise fast around draft time.
