As advertised, Bismack "The Bomb" Byombo is a beast on the boards!! Although he is a beanpole, Nogueira is not too shabby himself. Both are looking good out there.
Have you seen his frame, the guy is built like a tank. His not going to pushed around in the paint, I can promise you that...
http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=ESP&PlayerID=185563 Yeah, 6.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game on a team in 8th place in the SECOND BEST league in Europe is sure "dominating the internationals" alright.
Dominating probably isn't the best choice of words, but throw in the 2 blocks per game and look at the minutes per game, and that's pretty good actually. I'm not 100% sure on how rebounds and blocks translate, but I believe they're usually lower there as well. Plus, this draft sucks.
OHMSS is the worst poster on Clutchfans today. If clutchfans is the Euroleague, and OHMSS' "analysis" of basketball is correct, he is Ricky Rubio.
Yes, his overall stats are OK in the Spanish League, which is the second best league in Europe and he is playing on a very mediocre team. For his age, that is very good, but there is no way that you could day that is "dominating" anyone.

With big men like these there are only 3 factors you need to watch out for: 1) Health 2) Work Ethic 3) Motor If the big man prospect has all three then his future in the league is assured. Bismack seems to be a really solid prospect, Kanter or that Euro guy are the best rated big men, but it looks like Bismack is the most NBA ready big man in the draft. DX has him at the 18th slot, I say we draft him with the 14th, or package the 38th along with the 18th to trade up for him. THis guy and PP are our future.
Quickness and explosiveness isn't just useful on offense, why do you think KG, Duncan and DH are among the best defenders in league history? Bismack seems like the rich man's version of Dorsey. Dorsey didn't really pan out, but that was mostly due to his r****ded bball IQ and his lack of work ethic then anything else.
The dude got a triple double at the Nike hoop summit, which has never been done before (12 points, 11 rebounds, 10 blocks : http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/ian_thomsen/04/10/nike.hoop.summit/), I personally think that's fairly dominating. And, sure, you're right that he's not dominating the spanish league, but the fact that he is putting up the numbers that he is in that league where minutes are so hard to come by for young players -- that is impressive. Houston should do everything to get this guy. He is smarter than Ben Wallace, has a better jump shot, and I think his work ethic, intelligence and athleticism will eventually turn into a hell of an offensive game. Just think how raw Dream was at 18. By the time Bismack gets to his 2nd contract he may just be a max player.
From the SI article (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/ian_thomsen/04/10/nike.hoop.summit/) Quote from Bismack: "In the ACB(top Spanish league) I play with a lot of smart guys, I play with a lot of strong guys, and when I step on the court I just want to kill them.'' By the way, the guy is averaging 2.3 blocks a game in the top spanish league -- so, while I said before he is not dominating that league, that is a pretty powerful stat. Also, the reason the GM's are questioning his age is not because of any rumors or paper trail, apparantly: "NBA scouts and executives told me they believed Biyombo was older than his listed age of 18, based not only on his mature body but also his leadership skills, as he led the Internationals through their pre-practice stretches and was their most vocal and energetic player." So, basically, certain execs and scouts are trying to drive his draft stock down so they have a better chance to get him. Houston, please trade up for Bismack.
It's not that hard to get minutes on Fuenlabrada. It isn't the NBA where you consider the league. It is the Spanish League where you consider the team. Two entirely different set of criteria. Rubio was good at Joventut, a noticeable higher level than Fuenlabrada and he sucks miserably at the much higher level of Barca. Rudy Fernandez was very good at Joventut and is below average with the Blazers. The fact is that the NBA is overly obsessed with raw athletes that can "dominate" against youth age players like the Nike Hoop Summit but that have not proven anything against actual competition. A perfect example is Christian Heyenga. He was just another scrub player in the Spanish League but because he could jump high and "dominate" youth players with physicality he was made a first round draft pick. Now he is just another project player in the NBA. Being just an average role player on a club like Fuenlabrada is nothing to be impressed about. He is a project. He might turn out to be great, but he is a project nonetheless.
NBADraft.net put up a profile on him yesterday and has him going as the 50th pick in the 2nd round: He may have question marks and weaknesses, but even NBADraft.net has his defense and athleticism ranked at a 10 and 9 respectively. http://www.nbadraft.net/players/bismack-biyambo
