Dumbass me took a nap earlier, because it was raining...now I'm wide awake at 4AM. Wish I could hold out until 6 for the proper Mex breakfast...but I'm pretty starving and I think it's taquito time I'm afraid.
Plenty of shame in it. It's a white people only food. Nobody else orders taquitos, because they're boring. Where do you even get them? From a frozen freezer food box at Walmart or a Chicago-based establishment like Whataburger? People eat taquitos with freaking ketchup or Pace Picante, lulz.
Well, I am white people and despite the fact that I have been spoiled by living in Texas my entire life and thus have access to amazing breakfast tacos, I like a potato-egg-cheese taquito slathered in Whataburger salsa. Is it my go-to if I want a breakfast taco from a restaurant, no it is not, but it is perfectly acceptable at 2-6am if you are looking for breakfast.
And that's fine. I respect that. I love that. But please let me antagonize you for it, at least. It brings me joy for some reason.
Evident and thick as hell, as they arent even the same thing. One is traditionally a corn tortilla rolled with some sort of filling that is fried to give it a crispy texture. The other is a flour tortilla rolled with eggs and breakfast toppings. In the context of this thread? None, whatsoever. ALL DELICIOUS
also the Whataburger Taquito which is a breakfast taco Vs the store bought Taquitos which are microwaveable flautas Whataburger: mass produced reheated eggs, store bought tortillas, a slice of American cheese and toppings (hash browns for potato) covered in a pace like salsa Better breakfast taco: eggs cooked that day, fresher toppings (better meat or actual skillet cooked potatoes) topped with fresh real cheese (If you want cheese) and homemade tortillas. And in my case fresh green sauce not picante. but I still like The Whataburger version over **** like Egg McMuffins or other fast food breakfast options.
There was a taco stand on Antoine and Tidwell 8 years ago at the Fuel Depot gas station. There is one there now but its not the same ownership. The older sold a meat called buche. Pork stomach. Awesome
Just learned about these, gonna order some the next time I'm cooking fajitas (then may try and make some), he uses the fat from smoked brisket instead of pork lard in his tortillas: https://www.texasmonthly.com/food/former-barbecue-pitmaster-tortillas-glorious/
http://www.bellebrook.com sells beef tallow you can render down or smoke yourself, if you're interested. The benefits of tallow are supposed to be better than actual cooking oils. I've got some that I don't have time to render down yet.
I finally tried birria tacos at a food truck in bacliff. the hype is real. Mother of god those were good
The broth you dip them in is insane. I wanted to bathe in it. Anyone around Clear Lake it was at Azteca Xitlali in Bacliff.
