Can anyone recommend a quality brand of steel toe shoes? or a place in Houston with a good selection of steel toe shoes? I'm looking for a low top shoe not a boot. I usually get them from academy but looking for other options. I'm considering some stuff online but would like to try them on before buying.
I have and got a lot of different options from red wing to shoe carnival. I'm trying to narrow down the search.
For what purpose? Many jobs have to follow safety standards (can’t recall the number)...but I’m guessing if you didn’t mention that, it’s not the purpose. Converse makes steeltoes if it’s for random safety but you still want style.
Also, if you're buying for getting beaten by the police during a peaceful protest, please don't forget the helmet insert safety bump cap for baseball cap.
work, machining, welding, ect...something that will not catch on fire. I'm at the age were I want comfort over style.
I can vouch for some Red Wing stuff as far as comfort goes. Skechers also, but they're shoes and everybody's different. Both have stores in Houston.
I developed a heel spur while wearing red wings. Not saying they were the problem but I'm a little reluctant to that route again. Skechers is a option.
Georgia brand with comfort core, if you don't need a defined heel probably Reebok athletic work shoes. I've tried most all of them the past 16 years.
a steel cap over any shoes probably more comfortable, a machine shop fabrication if it can't be found in stores
Hey Slam I think they still follow the same standards as required when working in the industry. I've personally seen them hold up too caustic, acid and 1500 degree furnace refractory. Don't count them out bro.
I got my steel-toed boots for years from Hy-Test off Lawndale (near 610 South) when I was an operator. They have a great selection. I always bought Doc Marten’s that were a pain to break in, but are very comfortable once you break them in. Keen makes a great steel-toed boot as well and are very comfortable as are Twisted X. FRC Depot (formerly Boot Barn) on Center St. in Deer Park also a great selection as well.
