He said to ignore the sanctions because he promised they will be removed when the presidency changes hands which undermined the current federal government. Your spin is pretty hilarious though. Basically he told the Russians that the current president's actions are pointless.
No it isn't. That is the obvious implication when Flynn said not to escalate. Don't escalate because those sanctions are worthless as in a couple of months they'll be removed.
...exactly. ...Didn't the House and Senate republicans do the exact same thing with that "hideous" Iran nuclear deal....sending a letter to a foreign government and telling them that the president's "deal" would not be binding beyond his term in office?
Now you are proving your statement false by trying to add words flynn didn't say. You even admit he didn't say them. Again, flynn was cleared by the doj of what u claim
Dude, you do know it's a common practice in law enforcement and with prosecutors that if they know a charge is very difficult to successfully convict such as the Logan Act, as it's never been successfully used to convict, then usually law enforcement goes for lesser charges. Flynn lying about the meeting also speaks volumes to his intent of the meeting. If he felt that he wasn't telling the Russians to not worry about the sanctions, and rather was in good faith wagging his finger to them to not escalate, he wouldn't have lied. He would just tell the FBI, yes he did meet with them and he told them they better not escalate or else.
I just can’t take this seriously. You are trolling and spreading misinformation. It’s pretty rich for a Trump person to say that someone working for the Trump campaign isn’t working to undermine Obama admin policy. That’s sort of the entire point of Trump.
only one person has ever been charged with the logan act and that was before the civil war. Its not really a law. it was written back when governments couldn't communicate. Back then, I could take a boat to England and claim to be a representative of the US Government and England would have no way to confirm quickly. that's what the law was for. It doesn't apply today. The very fact your law blogs and prosecutors are mentioning the logan act should be a big red flag that they are full of ****. Of course, none of this has to do with your silly assertion that Flynn tried to undermine Obama policy by telling Russia not to escalate. or he didn't lie. far more logical
Actually understand the macro ramifications of what you are saying. Are you saying it's totally fine for a American representative to go to a foerign adversary and undermine the current federal government's actions? You don't think that is sufficient grounds for federal law enforcement to investigate your ass? Ya, prosecuters knew that the Logan Act is extremely difficult to prosecute. Hence like with thousands of cases of prosectors and district attorneys around the country, they stick to the charges they feel confident would successfully hold a conviction. Unfortunately for Flynn, he could have easily gotten away with undermining the federal government's actions towards a foerign adversary if he just didn't lie about not having a meeting with them.
Trump, Pence and Flynn all admitted he lied. Trump even said that Pence was "very disappointed with Flynn".
undermine in what way? first amendment says i can go to Russia and tell them whatever i want. The way you are trying to use the logan act (not how it was intended) would get blown up by the supreme court . Pence now says he doesn't think Flynn lied. But in your world people cant change their minds.
By all means go to Iran and speak with Iranian leadership about how not to care about the current sanctions as they will be removed soon and then lie about it when the FBI asks you. By all means see where that leads you.
Yeap, even the WH concluded that he lied and Trump fired him over it. It's hilarious, sad and dangerous to see the Bill Barr turn the DoJ into a political arm. Flynn was only going to get 0-6M jail. Erasing Flynn from criminal plate isn't any where near as damaging as what the DoJ is doing under Barr.
...all Flynn had to do was tell the FBI what they already knew...he had a conversation with Russian dignitaries/diplomats/spies/money-launderers... ...he didn't have to disclose what specifically was said...he could have done any number of things (like not speak to the FBI without an attorney present...or ask to be Mirandized if he was skeptical of the agency's motives—all of which he now seems to understand) other than what he ultimately decided to do. The FBI may have continued to investigate or surveil...federal prosecutions are notorious for their longevity and thoroughness...who knows...but that would have been more than likely...
But... trump and his defenders have no integrity, and will argue any side of a story, regardless of facts, and regardless of whether it contradicts a previous argument they made. Basically... lying is easy to do after the first lie.
Long blog entry... basic take away...the reason someone is unmasked is they needed to know the identity. And ironically, trump's people have unmasked over 30,000 people in three years... THE PUBLIC RECORD CLAIMS THAT FLYNN HAD NO PERMISSION FROM TRUMP TO UNDERMINE US POLICY IN CALLING KISLYAK https://www.emptywheel.net/2020/05/...umps-prior-authorization-on-call-with-russia/
It is easy from your vantage point to call trump defenders liars and say they lack integrity. But a lot of the same stuff you accuse us of doing is also happening with you biden supporters. The truth lies somewhere in the middle and i try to refrain from the prejudiced opinion of large groups like this.
