Thanks Rudy Those thick black bars on the sides are 4:3 ratio They don't know about that Sony Trinitron life
The role player to role player inside buckets were huge. You only get opportunities like that when a team outrebounds the other team. First, the Kenny Smith bucket to beat shot clock. Then you had Otis Thorpe to horry around 3:05 mark of video for a running hook. Then, Maxwell shot to beat clock at end of first half. After all of that, olujuwon can finish the game for you. Then, you can't forget olujuwon finding Maxwell out of a double team for an open three! It's beautiful!
Man, I wish I was old enough at the time to experience this moment. I was only 2. The first championship for the city of Houston would've been an amazing thing to witness. Then to go back to back the year after. Watching old videos and reading about it still gets me excited to this day.
People have to understand that back in those days nba basketball was free without cable. Basically, nba basketball was available to the poorest fan. A family could be on welfare and loan star food stamps and watch three or four nba games a week without Xfinity/Comcast subscription!
At 4:10: Maxwell gets dunked on. Me: "Oh, Max is pissed." Mad Max proceeds to take the ball the full length of the court and immediately get those two points back before the clock runs on out in the first half. At 4:49, sick inbound pass to one-handed jam by Horry. At 8:18, Maxwell with the dagger. Everyone goes nuts. I was only 10 when I saw this game, but I remember it being a back and forth punchfest, and this confirms it. What I had forgotten but now remember is Starks missing three after three down the stretch. I look at every player on that Rockets team, and I just have the fondest memories flood in.
The entire series was a slugfest with 2 great defensive teams and every possession was magnified. I remember wanting the Pacers to beat the Knicks because I knew the Knicks would get away with fouls because the refs couldn't call everything. Derek Harper owned Kenny Smith the entire series. If we don't have Cassell the rockets probably lose. Elie was a non factor this series because the Knicks were so big we have to play Horry/ Herrerra at the 3 and they always played good vs the Knicks. Game 6 and 7 were night and day for Starks he couldn't miss in game 6 and thank god Hakeem got his finger tip on that shot he took at the buzzer. He couldn't buy a basket in game 7 and that was the difference for the Rockets. I wonder who would win a 60m dash in their prime between Maxwell and Westbrook I think they are the 2 fastest players the Rockets have ever had.
Matt Maloney was faster than mug-fuger too. And so Calvin Murphy, moochie Norris, and don't forget Scott Brooks!
