I don't think there is. Having people dying, increasing the number of affected, placing a larger burden on healthcare and resources that are already limited isn't a reward and will be worse for the economy long-term. This is like medicine or a shot. It tastes bad going in/hurts but that pain is brief and the relief is long lasting. Yes, we have to suffer in the short term. We do that so that long term not only are we happier, but our economy will be healthier. It is a crap thing to do the doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals that are already over-worked, risking their lives and health to serve the rest of us. There is zero question about risk and reward. The economy is going to be hurt with this virus. The only question is do we want that pain to be relatively short-term or relatively long-term and also include pain, suffering, and slap the health care workers in the face as well. To me that isn't a question. It's risk vs. bigger and worse risk.
I agree with all of this and point is the risk reward once the curve has flattened out, even china is now going back to work and we all know the crisis has not ended there. Yes its risk vs bigger and worse risk because we know the virus will not be completely eradicated, so at some point it's gonna be a risk vs reward question.
[Premium Post] There are so many people around here that want to see the world burn... because it would damage Trump... and so they fantasize about hundreds of thousands of deaths in the USA... and about how the hospitals will be out of space, 4 people sharing a ventilator in a hallway, etc. The actual facts don't matter at all to these people, and data is not used to construct their doomsday predictions. Also conveniently absent from the predictions is any type of vaccine or public/private response with equipment and supplies. Let's call these people the 'rona bois going forward, so we can properly characterize them and slap down their trollish, hysteria-inducing behavior. Behavior that should be labeled as irresponsible and damaging to the public's psyche.
A while back, Tennessee and Kentucky had about the same numbers of infected citizens, based on testing. Today? Tennessee has hundreds of infected, and the number of infected, based on testing, is shooting up. Kentucky? They have under a hundred. Considerably under, if memory serves. The difference? At the point in time where the numbers of both states were low, but to those paying attention, the news was very troubling, Kentucky’s Governor took strong measures to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. Tennessee’s Governor did not. This can be checked online. This is very troubling for our own state, Texas, who has a governor who has not taken strong and timely action at all. Witness the crowds along the coast, like at Port Aransas, during Spring Break. Abbott could have prevented that. He did not. Large numbers of those mostly young people were from Texas and returned to their towns and cities, many of them, no doubt, having gotten infected. Same with those from out of state, returning to their own homes after having what I’m sure was a great time. I’ve been to coastal Texas many, many times. It’s beautiful. What was Abbott thinking?
Not sure what's going on there. Yes, Trump could (and since has), BUT everything Cuomo is saying (ie, need to give business a contract, etc) is something any state could do as well. Is this mainly about who pays for it?
Does that mean you shouldn't compare fatalities, and our response to them? No, it doesn't. The analogy was all about impact, and our response. Unless you are saying that just because its contagious, we should just throw all reason out the window, and do whatever it takes? if so, then why don't we do that for the flu, which kills tens of thousands annually? You might bring a little more than Trump hate to the argument, before calling out others.
trump saying the quiet part out loud... "in the hope that it will be detrimental to my election success." Everything is all about his re-election...
This. I don't understand waiting to take strong action when doing it early is really the only effective way to try and contain the virus.
President Trump, how many deaths are acceptable? You almost got him to slip up and give an honest answer.
The comparisons to car accidents, drownings, lightning strikes, shark attacks, etc are the standard Trumpanzee political deflection for gun violence and now coronavirus deaths. We know Trumpanzees are purely political animals and that's all they really care about. Nothing different here. Anyone with an ounce of intellectual honesty knows comparing this virus to car accidents is ****ing stupid. You don't need to characterize dumbo Donnie's comments, we all speak English.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bl...avirus-approved-by-60-in-gallup-poll-k86e29ot Amazing how polls rise when people are home and not busy.
So do you believe in the polls or not... .you can't say look at the polls when it shows what you want to see and then say the polls are fake when it doesn't show what you want.. T_Man
