It's really sad. He seemed relatively on top of it, but I guess he feared over-reacting. (?)
    Ugh.

Cuomo's "NY IS FIRST" plan is self centered and arrogant. And you have to ask yourself, if he's doing such a great job why is NY cases so high?!?!

His extremely high ventilator requests, while understandable, are concerning. I thought I read the feds have 25k in reserve. Cuomo has been saying he needs 30k. NYC can’t have them all... what about when this moves on to the rest of the country?

What is self centered and arrogant about it?

NY is the most likely state to reach tipping point and should get top priority. All other states seem to be behind the curve at this point.

The consequences of the healthcare system of a state being overwhelmed are dire by any measure

Because it's by far the largest and most densely packed city in the nation with a subway system that crams people together and 3 major airports?

Is that a serious question? Because it's an international city that economy and business wise has thousands of people in and out of the city daily from around the world. Like what is the ineptitude of an individual to ask that?

De Blasio was working out at the gym last Monday, he was hardly ahead of the curve.

NY by far has the most cases in the US (25,000 as of this AM and rising quick). Yes NY should be first for assistance in getting ventilators & other supplies. You are just looking for any reason to get angry at Democrats. Grow up.

    Lol...

So now the Trumpettes want to try and attack Cuomo, because they got the dog whistle from their general....

I'm not saying Cuomo hasn't done some bad stuff, but right now he is the voice of reason and showing the President how you handle and act when their is a true crisis...

Mrs B-Bob was on a call with some doctors yesterday and there is some talk among hospitals around the country about being able to, (in a pinch, and they all expect a pinch), run four similarly-sized patients with one ventilator machine. That's third-hand gossip, and I have no idea how widespread talk like that is, but it seems reasonable that we're going to see some real Apollo 13 style **** in the weeks ahead.

San Francisco is still just creeping up 20-25 cases per day for the last few, but we'll see. It really seems to me that New York was permeating by European travelers much more than any other part of the US, and well, subways, packed sidewalks, crowded apartments, and so on. (I'm wondering if SF is benefitting in part from so many houses sitting vacant as investment properties right now.)

    4?
Even with 2 this is dangerous with 4 a hospital infection is a given.

How dark the times ahead will get. :(

From what I heard, not with proper filtration. But yeah, things are desperate. The machines are strong enough to do it, but it's a pretty scary image. Four nearby COVID patients, being made to breath in unison.

New York has been testing WAY more than any other states and at a rate higher than China and South Korea.

They probably actually do have more cases than most others due to the nature of their state (density, diversity), BUT they are just able to be more accurate in accessing who has the virus based on the fact they are testing more.

Case in point - they have less than double the deaths from the virus compared to California and Washington, but have 10 times more cases. Numbers don’t add up, unless you think the virus discriminates against Californians and people of Washington.

I was curious about test per M population, so I looked up some number. Couldn't find it, but able to calc from these links below. With such difference in per M tested, I think these test numbers (how many positive, positive per M) is pretty useless. You can look at it for trend, but even that is quite useless unless you take into account how many tested per day. I think # hospitalized and # deaths (per M) is probably the best indicator of severity with what we have (too bad not all states report hospitalized numbers). If you estimate that 8% of those infected require hospitalization, NY should have 40k positive case, instead of 26k.

As of 3/24/2020 (state, # tested, # hospitalized, # deaths, test per M population)

    NY 91270 tests (3234 Hospitalized, 210 deaths). 4680 tests / M.
    CA 27654 tests (? Hospitalized, 40 deaths). 700 tests / M
    FL 16046 tests ( 278 Hospitalized, 20 deaths). 746 tests / M.
    WA 34181 tests (? Hospitalized, 123 deaths). 4498 tests / M
    GA 5555 tests ( 361 Hospitalized, 38 deaths). 524 tests / M.
    LA 8603 tests ( 271 Hospitalized, 46 deaths). 1846 tests / M.
    MI 3860 tests (? Hospitalized, 24 deaths). 390 tests / M
    NJ 12045 tests (? Hospitalized, 44 deaths). 1356 tests / M

    US 359161 tests. 1087 tests / M.
    SK 348582 tests. 6795 tests / M.
