Of course they aren't and they never will be. That's why they are closed off from air and water. Only some few refugees can come by paddling boats and escaping the national guard. And they are immediately rounded up and enter heavily guarded camps where only a few person can leave.

My parents live in such a small island that's why they begun isolating one month before the rest of the population.
The point is to stop it from coming there because otherwise in most it can be a disaster.

of course its a loophole. if you're friends don't live there, they pretty much shouldn't be there if someone is truly taking this thing seriously. the more people you're around the more at risk this becomes. none of you have any idea where others have been or what they've touched. the asymptomatic types are the absolute worse. if you're family household is 10 or whatever so be it. not much you can do there. I'm talking about the groups of friends gathering, drinking, playing board games, making tik tok vids, and all that other bs. those are absolutely loopholes

That's because you are only in the beginning of the process. After some days if these friends gather their neighbours will call the police and report them.

whatever terminology you want to call it in, whether you want to call it social distancing, shutdown or whatever. if a "lockdown" which is merely a formality as i mentioned before gets put in place the same thing applies

Doesn't your lockdown include rules of banning social gatherings even in homes?
If so that is breaking the law and the police will intervene when alerted.

Alright. Well I'll stop hanging out with my roommate or my SO of 5 years when you stop hanging out with your wife.

We don't have a lockdown or anything close to it in Houston.

not really. and police aren't going house to house breaking up people playing board games with each other and dancing to tik tok. they ain't wasting their time doing that

Probably. Your posting has been confusing and unclear.

Also, my SO does not live with me.

not sure how this is unclear. seems pretty clear cut to me what this says

if you're friends don't live there, they pretty much shouldn't be there if someone is truly taking this thing seriously. the more people you're around the more at risk this becomes. none of you have any idea where others have been or what they've touched. the asymptomatic types are the absolute worse. if you're family household is 10 or whatever so be it. not much you can do there. Mildly good news: Italy looks like it may have peaked. May still be too soon to tell, with lower daily infections and lower deaths for a couple days in a row, coupled with the fact that reports came out on Friday that they were seeing less people with symptoms show up at hospitals, Italy HOPEFULLY is heading down the back half of the slope.

I also saw that Germany may be making a dent in their curve too. It does give SOME hope despite bad news out of France and Spain.

They also had a great interview with the Kaiser CEO on California. They've seen a huge drop in non-COVID respiratory infections (flu, bacterial pneumonia, etc.) that is a direct result of social distancing and lock downs. 1. It bodes well for the curve being flattened for COVID, and 2. helping curve the seasonal flu frees up beds and respirators if you need them.

The thing about their theory is though, I'm wondering, how it's gonna work in summer in an urban city where most people move around from one air-conditioned area to another air-conditioned area, like from home to car to work, etc. These areas are all cool and dry to Covid19's liking. Would this mean people would have to turn down, or off, their air-conditioners this summer, in favor of high humidity and high temperature?

Its about rate of transmission. Scientists don't even COMPLETELY understand how it works with things like the seasonal flu. Part if it is that it dies faster outside of the body...so that bring down transmission rates some. The other part may be that summer activities tend to be more outdoors and not cooped up with lots of people.

If you can get that transmission rate below 1.0, it declines naturally. So if you are at 1.1 and weather knocks it down to 0.9...there you go. Even if you are at a much higher growth number, even if it reduces it 20-30%, that allows the other measures we've all taken to take hold stronger.

Again...its all theoretical at this point, but there are something like 4 published studies now with the theory that it'll get better as it gets warmer. One internal to China (warmer climates had a much slower rate of transmission). One looked at the globe in totality and can show clear lines of climate where its exploded. Both are slightly flawed. The one in China at least looked at data BEFORE the lock downs, which is key. The one on the climate lines MAY be directly related to more travel along those climate lines.

Yea, there is a pretty big difference from "not taking this thing seriously" and having 1-2 people over to your place from time to time. Of course, what you're talking about is a special burden on the young who will be completely isolated while the older folks with a spouse/family won't be. I'm not going to stop seeing my SO. Is that riskier then not? Of course but that's ok with me. Is it riskier to hang out with a family? Of course, but that's permissible too.
