Another concern is that smoking increases these ACE2 receptors in the lungs making them more susceptible to infection of Covid-19. Our head of the CDC talked about this today. He said it is not certain that it increases severity but logically and most likely it increases susceptabillity. Then for genetic factors we should look at if there is a population that as that study said have polymorphism of ACE2 receptors. Are there even any study out there on this? Btw according to our CDC the treatment the severe cases receive is 3ple. One dose of the HIV drug, one of the Ebola failed drug and one of the antimalaria drug. He said that the Ebola failed drug in trials in the US so far hasn't shown so much promising results. I wonder why they don't try also the arthritis drug that the Italians are trying.
Sadly true, but their stupidity also impacts the ones that can't get vaccines too (making their selfishness not only impact them/their childrens lives but all of us) - it actually makes our own immunity lower as a whole. For example, if people continue to ignore getting measles vaccines, people that got the early form of the vaccine are possibly no longer safe, so they'll need a booster (new shot) etc. Like without complicating things or getting off topic, a vaccine doesn't guarantee you won't get a Virus, like even if the strain is correct. The idea behind a vaccine is to have enough of the population protected that the spread is gone and the virus goes away (assuming it's not something more difficult/mutates), the other point of the vaccine is to have your body prepared on the immune side of things to prevent it from impacting you/faster immune response. Like with the way things are going on vaccines, if people choose to listen to Dr. Jenny McCarthy at a high rate (or whoever shouts nonsense next), most likely everyone from before the 1980s is going to have to get another measles vaccine (if they can and aren't health compromised).
yes , crowding in the supermarkets increases spread. Especially since it is a closed space so the virus can remain in the air for longer. That's why many countries are beginning implementing strict measures on how many people can enter a supermarket at one time, and you have to stand 1 meter away while waiting in the queue. At this point it is much better to order your supplies online.
That''s a scary thought. Just watched Sanjya Gupta's interview on Colbert and he talked about measles briefly - a measles outbreak sounds MUCH more terrifying than covid-19.
Yes, on the ACE2 receptors I was trying to find more on population, like if there will be cases where it impacts some more than others. I'm thinking the smoking link could be the reason males are more susceptible to it - I know that's why in the US, post ww2 (iirc that's the point in time it was more socially acceptable when women took up smoking)- their cancer rates increased but also lagged behind what men were showing. And then as time progressed you saw it evening out on lung cancer rate between men/women
Yes, it absolutely is, like if Covid-19 vs a measles type situation, the spread of measles is like 2-3x the rapid spread of Covid-19
Very simply. If measles was a new virus that was created today we would really have to go underground and live in bunkers to save our societies. On the other hand if the bubonic plague, the Black Death, was a new bacteria that tried to kill the western countries, it wouldn't be such a big deal. We would nuke it to death with our medicines.
AHAHA what did I say? Here it is Closed down every organised beach. You don't have to be the CCP. But if the people are selfish and stupid you have to act like it in times of emergency. We said personal responsibillity. Information, coaxing, even begging. Since people don't listen then their rights will have to be taken away because this is war with hundreds of thousands of lives at stake.
All gatherings of 50 people or more have been prohibited in Berlin. Also, no way to buy any disinfectant stuff anywhere.
A friend told me about people that came from a vacation in Europe that weren't even asked anything before they boarded the plane back to the US from the UK (?). This, I believe, was yesterday.

According to a news release, both people lived together in the Alvin area. Both of them were tested after they reported feeling symptoms of the new coronavirus, officials said. They were tested at a Harris County health facility. Officials said the two did not travel outside of Houston but did attend the Rodeo cookoff and events. The Brazoria County Health Department is conducting an investigation to identify other people who may have come in contact with them.
good WaPo article today about Americans returning from infected Egyptian cruise line. Not screened, not getting tested despite requests. Some of these folks returned to H-town and Dallas.
France will shut down cafes, shops, restaurants and cinemas to stem the spread of the coronavirus outbreak, prime minister Éduoard Philippe has announced. Philippe said public transport will be kept open but asked citizens to limit their use. The closures will come into effect at midnight on Saturday. He told a news conference that exceptions on the shop ban would include food stores, pharmacies and gas stations.
I guess Trump only thinks people other than Americans coming from Europe can spread it. Mind boggling. Meanwhile, Americans can still travel.
