You're a joke, no second guessing that. Maybe that’s an opinion but nothing else I said was. He lied, he hesitated, virus has a head start. It’s elementary. Keep up.
I understand the desire to lock down the whole country but we have to consider the repercussions. The way much our economy is structured we have a lot of people who are living pay check to pay check. A shut down might save lives from Covid 19 but what happens once bills start piling up. Keep in mind just because there is Covid 19 doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot of other health issues that will continue on. Also much of our supply chain is based on on time delivery and there are already shortages of medicines from Asia as the PRC production is down. Now we are going to block cargo from the EU too that is further going to strain our supply chain. This isn’t just things like clothes and wine but we count in imports for things like medicines and medical gear. Add on top of this where we lock down the US and our own production goes down because people aren’t going to work. Besides things like medicine what happens to food production and other essential things that are seasonally sensitive if the country shuts down for much of Spring. We are facing a crisis but we need to think carefully of the implications of major actions to address this. If we act rashly out of panic we could be facing a larger and longer crisis as our economy collapses and people die because they can’t get things like insulin or parts for dialysis machines.
What an idiot. Can you imagine if this happened when the stock markets were open. Would go something like this
Early action is key here. Shut things down. The government can borrow at record lows now to stabilize those in need. It's the only sane choice. We are literally flying blind thanks to the testing fail.
This is what Washington and private industry has been wrestling with for two weeks. In some sense it is a game of chicken.
I agree we are flying blind and I fully agree we need much more testing. It’s not always a good idea to suddenly stop the plane while flying blind. Yes you could run into a mountain but you will most likely crash trying to land blindly. Sometimes it makes sense to risk continuing While trying to get your bearings.
It's never a good idea to play a game of chicken with a self replicating strand of RNA. It ain't gonna blink
Without a lockdown the economic damage may be far worse. You have to pick your poison here. We are already looking at a recession - and given the global impact - possibly a depression. You can give everyone who needs it $1,000 to survive during the lockdown - people need cash, not a payroll tax cut. Lockdown the country will clear the virus from circulation and also create a group of people who have recovered from the virus - in other words - a group that is immune from reinfection or spreading the disease and can thus safely interact with carriers. During the lockdown, implement mass testing at every port of entry. Create a national id system that marks everyone's coronavirus history (never infected, currently quarantined, and recovered). Dramatic and decisive action in needed RIGHT NOW. We have seen what works in China and S. Korea. Italy finally got the message. When 3 out of 3 countries went to lockdown what choice do you have. People are going to suffer terribly no matter what you do. And remember the disruption is going to cost lives in other ways too as much needed medicines and supplies will become unavailable. There will be blood shortages too. The cargo ban is just stupid. The virus isn't going to survive two weeks on a ship and just demonstrates complete ignorance. But the lockdown has to happen, otherwise you will face months and months of disruption until the virus runs its course and infects 60-70% of the population and you have potentially a million deaths from this.
