Tmac wasn't a good 3 point shooter, but like 70% of the fans here just point to the 13 in 33 and assume he's Steph Curry, Harden and Larry Bird
But why not ever ask why those same teams couldn’t game plan for a 7 series WITH a center? Was that Harden/Capela pick and roll so impossible to “game plan” for?
You could have that "take" against every single team in the NBA. It turns into a, "Hey If you don't win a ring it didn't work and I was right" It's really embarrassing that this counts as a "take". Nah, you gotta earn it... Now THAT IS A TAKE.
McGrady was just a poor shooter....... he wasn't any better on two point shots either...... he stopped penetrating to the basket, instead he settled for mid range and long range shots and did everything possible to avoid physical contact. He actually was a good three point shooter in his prime, but he didn't take contested shots then because teams had to respect his penetration...... with the Rockets he turned into an inefficient monster....
There were some series where Capela was a complete liability and the lob was taken out of play. (Dubs) There we’re also some that Capela was a beast with Harden (Jazz)
If everyone was running permanent small ball then yes, that would be appropriate. The fact is that we don’t know how it’ll pan out. I’m hopeful it’s similar to the results that we’ve seen recently, but there’s still a bit of me that says it might blow up in our faces:
We actually do know how it will pan out. See GSW with Draymond, or the Rockets in 2018. Size will not be our undoing and that is just a fact. Is there a team in the NBA with a back-court that plays bigger than Westbrook, Gordon and Harden? Middle Linebackers man... You guys can keep screaming small-ball, but the reality is that we are not small at ALL. We are not traditional, but that's where that stuff ends. WE ARE LONG. WE ARE STRONG. (AND WE LOVE TO GET THE FRICTION ON!)
Dubs did not run that solely, they ran it to close games. We didn’t run that solely. I’m all for the system and what the numbers show is efficient. But I’m also not going to bury my head in the sand and claim it’s going to work. Because in fact, no one knows if it will.
[QUOTE="Loneyroy7, post: 12873354, member: 62589" He just doesn't know what that gameplan is lmaooo.[/QUOTE] Just like in his playing days.
Every pundit said same thing about GSW at beginning of their reign. No team is going to win a ring by the jump shot, remember? 5 years later, 3 rings.
This dude knows quite a bit about "small ball" as it pretty much epitomizes his success in the playoffs over his entire career. Not getting out of the first round EVER is "small ball".
Dubs ran a motion based offense and a more traditional center quite a bit. The Hampton 5 was elite but it wasn’t entire games. Like I said, I hope it works and I’m not really saying it won’t. I’m saying no team has ever went this far “in” with a 5 out small ball team. It’s more than fair to question if it’ll work in a 7 game series. I hope it does and this becomes another trend that the Rockets set or take to other levels. But it’s still an unknown
You are putting your head in the sand now, by claiming that it won't work. There is more than enough data to see that it clearly does. 1. The offense with more space will improve. 2. Robert Covington is better at defending every single position in comparison to Clint Capela (Yes, Centers too) , so the defense will also improve. 3. Full-time switching destroys teams in the playoffs, and turns games into iso-ball, which benefits us. Take your head out of the sand and see the future, it is Dan Langhi!
Wingspan and big frames help offset a lot. I love the low turnovers and the extra possessions. I love us being able to force turnovers. My fear is when the shots aren’t falling will they be able to hang with a significant disadvantage in rebounding and will teams find a way to guard Harden and Westbrook in a 7 game series.
Lol, this might be the most stereotypical Clutchfans post I’ve seen. You are claiming a 10 game set of games against different teams in the regular season as undeniable proof it will work against the elite teams in the playoffs? You’re automatically assuming I’m saying it won’t work because I have worries that it might not? That’s called blind homerism or fanhood. I’d love for that to be the case with me but I’ve watched Houston sports too long to just blindly believe
